UConn is making a huge mistake here. They're going to assure that their football program remains terrible and irrelevant for decades now just so they can make a parallel move in basketball. It makes no sense.

So long!

The AAC will be at an important juncture if this goes through. We have an opportunity to sieze and improve our conference. However, we could really screw ourselves as well if we add the wrong member.

Boise/BYU, come on down!

You're just happy you won't lose to UCONN Football ever again. Only 4-2 all time vs the Huskies. Yikes!

the fact anyone is even remotely believing this is funny to me

also i checked on this credible uconn source on their board..he speaks in 3rd person....and has underwear as his icon lol

update for everyone who wants to remove common sense for the discussion...uconn is a public institution there is no way a decision like this would not have been noticed ...their has to be public meetings for stuff like this and state approvals...all of which would have tons of leaks throughout the process

if the article was saying there was "heavy discussions" about potentially leaving that might have been more believable..but to have no name site with no ties to uconn breaking a story that uconn "IS" leaving and already has a date (in 1 season) is silly to me

hurley just 2 days ago was talking about recruiting for the aac on the podcast i posted...im guessing he didnt know either? lol

The source is probably bogus, so you are right on that. But this makes a ton of sense. The smoke might be legit. UConn has a lot of incentive to leave because of their desperation.

I’m betting they jumped the gun, but this scenario is pretty realistic. Hurley certainly wouldn’t find out much earlier than the rest of us, for the record.

Looks like you were right, the site jumped the gun, but they are having discussion about leaving

Wired gut feeling I'm having is the Courant version says nothing is official not even the big east invite yet .. not even a decision for football
I have a weird feel this is negotiation tactic about the suny stuff

Negotiate what? The deal is done. If UCONN throws a fit and the AAC and ESPN bend to take content off their networks to appease UConn, then it impacts the value of the deal itself and materially changes the terms that everyone has already signed onto.

UConn will either live with the deal in the AAC or leave and do whatever regional deal they want. And that sounds like the plan.

There is really no football program that we would add that could be worse than UConn.

I hate this. The big east isn't even a better basketball conference than the aac at this point. It's a worse decision from a financial perspective too. If this is true we have horrible leadership

…….and good luck to your football coach trying to recruit now.

negotiations are not done...suny and cbsports were to be negotiated through out the year according to aresco and espn's president

UConn's athletic program lost $41 million last year. I surmise it is a factor in their possible exit.

Yup. Going to be tough to replace the worst division 1 football program in the entire country. Also going to be tough to replace a CBI level basketball program.
