Biggest P5 upsets.
From there the discussion can be made on which one had the most In propelling their program.
But I think we're starting the conversation with biggest upset.

Yes, looks like East Carolina beat number 9 Miami in 1999.
So we'll add it to the list.
I'm trying to pull all of these together, and then we can discuss where they would rank.
Like your point, why would you consider the Appalachian State win a bigger upset than Boise State? Not from a flame question, but for a discussion. Make your case!
Well, they beat the #5 team in the nation with 20 less scholarship players and won with mostly one and two star players.... maybe some threes too.

Sound reasoning, also, Appalachian State at the time was FCS...
Here's a question though, should a late-season upset in a major bowl game be counted more heavily then early-season upset over what might have been an over ranked squad?
I'm going to change them, but I just wanted to get that opinion out there.

How can #8 beating #10 be considered an upset?
it's the one that sticks out in my mind the most, but I'm going to move them as I said earlier.
I watched that game, and it was a very memorable back-and-forth game, one of the best I have ever seen, and I am sure most people thought before the game that OU would show the upstarts the door. But if BSU were the higher ranked ranked team, then it was not an upset, unless the bookies had BSU as a BIG dog.
The other (modern) one that dropped my jaw was Appy v. Michigan. But I enjoy reading about the teams of the past, including the upsets, Did you catch the part of the Centre College link that said "Up until their final game of the season the Colonels outscored their opponents by a margin of 314 to 6"? Maybe it wasn't such a big upset, although Harvard WAS the Alabama AND Clemson of that time.

TCU beating Clemson on their Rose Bowl run.
TCU beating Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.
TCU beating Oklahoma in their first season in the MWC.
Tulsa beating Notre Dame in 2010.
Fresno State almost pulled the upset vs USC that later played Texas in what became the iconic 2005 BCS championship.
I'm about to leave the thread, but would you know what years and rankings those upsets occurred?

I edited my comment with the dates and rankings.

You sure you know how to spell UTEP? You sound like a TCU fan.
But as long as you are into listing TCU wins, don't forget the 6-0 win against Texas in 1961. Sonny Gibbs to Buddy Iles.

In live in DFW so I kinda keep up with them and SMU, UNT, UTA basketball and Dallas Baptist baseball. Do I root for any of them? Not really.

I think that depends. Is it separate divisions (fcs/fbs)? What did the upset team do the rest of the season (for early upsets)
A little more history on the Tech upset over Alabama in '99. Tech beat the Tide in '97 - actually we took a knee inside the 10 to run out the clock. I haven't been able to find a replay of this game anywhere. The '99 game is available on YouTube and if you watch the pregame they all talk about how the Tide will not over look Tech again...

Awesome! Thanks for catching these. I bolded the ones that probably warrant mention...
