If we are going to claim to be P6, then we probably need a few more heavy hitters in our lineup... I believe it would give our conference more credibility when claiming a P6.

Interesting point, although it may be unlikely to happen any time soon, since Aresco hasn't shown any interest in expansion beyond 12 members.

Additionally, ESPN would have to provide full support and encouragement for this to happen, since the broadcasting agreement might have to be revised.

On the other hand, not only would a 14-team AAC have a larger broadcasting market, but the conference would thereby insure itself against the prospect of losing 2-4 teams in a 2005-06 realignment scenario.

ESPN could take the $20M or whatever it might otherwise pay to the MWC for its content and redirect that to the expanded 14-team AAC. It would prop up its $1B investment and relegate the MWC leftovers to CUSA status. May be Mountain Wednesdays could become a thing!

Boise would have to be part of the expansion.

I don’t think that UT will be able to leave Texas Tech, TCU and Baylor behind very easily. I also don’t think that they will choose to be in a conference that does not include OK, which will likewise have a hard time leaving OK State behind.

Kansas will also have a hard time separating themselves from Kansas State.

Granted, I was wrong about Louisville joining the ACC (lots of ACC members would probably like to reverse that decision because of recent scandals) so I could be wrong about this as well.

If anything, I could see all of the members going elsewhere with the exception of TCU, Baylor, Iowa State and WVU. I’m not sure if that group has the clout to re-form the B12 or start another conference entirely. I could see one or all moving to the AAC, however.

I think those four could re-form the Big 12 with select AAC and MWC teams. Of course the new Big12 becomes the new AAC as the best of the non-Power4 at this point and no NYD bowl lock-in so what money would be there, I don't know.

Be interesting if the left behinds could keep the Big12 name or if a rebranding would be in order.
