Just like a Covid-19 vaccine might never exist, and even if we get one it could be WAY more than a year or 18 months before we do. Do people really think the government can just keep printing money forever? The consequences of this if it keeps up will be massive inflation and massive unemployment, the Great Depression x 10. And if you don't think THAT will cause way more deaths than the virus you're being very naive.

Ur solution?

The same solution as we've had since the dawn of time. Natural selection. Most people will develop immunity, some will die. I don't ever want anyone to die, but they do, every day, from a myriad of causes. That's life.

When are we going to stop tornadoes and hurricanes? Answer: we aren't. You can't beat Mother Nature.

Wow, just wow.

You can't even really blame Trump for people like this. Trump actually came around and listened to the experts and supported social distancing and stay at home orders at least to this point.

I understand more than you know. My Dad is a highly decorated Vietnam vet. He's laid up right now dying. He wasn't supposed to live past the end of March, but he's the toughest SOB I've ever known and he was ALWAYS a hell of a lot stronger than me. We've already been told pretty much no one will be allowed at the funeral. My heart is broken and I've cried about it plenty, but that doesn't help my neighbor feed his children.

I’m sorry, no one should have to go through that. I went through it with my uncle 3 weeks ago after he died....also a Vietnam Vet. If you see this, then how can you talk about natural selection?

Very glad that this whole thread got moved to this board, and won't be sticking around to see it devolve into the typical left/right arguments that will never convince anybody whose mind is made up on either side to feel differently. But wanted to chime in on this line...

I agree we are in no shape to reopen anytime soon and even if we do most people aren't piling into arenas. Reopening in China meant 4 people in a store that usually held 50. That was after they welded people in their homes to get it under control. Things like the Chineese basketball are still getting delayed so I'm not sure how under control it even is.

The virus has a death rate of below .004% under 50 and healthy. Need to keep those at risk safe and practice caution for others. Sports definitely isn't happening now though. Maybe fall

Destroying companies, jobs, and lives. Open back up may 1st.

40% of people under 54 years old are having to get hospitalized though. What happens if you overwhelm the hospitals then you don't have a bed or doctors to get you through. The that death rate goes way up and for younger people as well. They couldn't even wait on people having heart attacks and strokes in Italy because they were so over ran. We got to stay smart on this and limit the loss of life as best we can. The economy can be rebuilt, this is the richest country in world and most capable.

It's not just the death rate it's the potential onslaught and it can blow up anywhere. Just look at the 89k person county in Georgia. They have over a 1000 cases about a quarter of the cases and just about the same number deaths as 11 million person state of NC a few days ago and that was traced from 2 funerals before they shut it down like NC did.

Yikes. You should really reword this. 40% of patients hospitalized are in that age group, not 40% of the population in that age group are being hospitalized.

And the age population under 54 make up 70% of the population. Yet, over 55 (or 30% of the population) account for 60% of hospitalizations. People under 54 account for like 5-10% of deaths. But have 70% of the population. It’s a bad statistic.

What are you talking about dude, 40% of no population is in the hospital. Who is saying that. 40% of what is in the hospital is what it is though does tell an important story. 20% of people under the age of 44 in ICU's as well. This isn't just old people problems especially if you don't have the bed to care for people if hospitals are overwhelmed.

“40% of people under 54 years old are having to get hospitalized”.

Your words, not mine.

People under 45 make up 60% of the population. And account for maybe 1% of the deaths.

I didn't make up natural selection, it's just how our world works. Charles Darwin wrote a famous book about it a couple of hundred years ago. I seriously don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but man can only do so much, we can't stop death. Trump is basically a douche but he was right when he said we can't let the cure be worse than the disease.

People like Fauci keep saying we need to be shutdown till there's a vaccine, but that will be an absolute minimum of a year from now, and maybe a lot longer. Surely no one really thinks we can go that long like this? Far more people would die from that than the virus.

Confusing wording I guess but it's hard to believe anyone got it that mixed up. You know there aren't 40% of 20-54 year olds in the hospital or at least I hope you and most people do if you are following along at all. The context was if you get hospitalized it's not just the old people that are, and trying to cut down hospitalizations so they aren't overwhelmed and can't treat people.

Yes. I completely understood, but someone who just reads your sentence may take in the way I mentioned. Which would be misleading.

And the stats in population do play a role. If the age group you mentioned makes up 70% of the population, then it stands to reason that some will be impacted. However, the majority of the hospitalizations come from the age group that only makes up 30% of the population. That speaks volumes. Also, how many of the people in the under 54 group have underlying conditions? That would be a better stat, IMO. What is the percent of people hospitalized under 55 that have 0 underlying conditions? I would be willing to bet that it is under 5%.

I never understood this discussion. So if you are old or fat, then deal with it and maybe die?
