What’s going to happen with all the cancelled OOC games?
This question has been nagging at me. 1 game deals like the body bag games that the P5 schedule with G5 and FCS schools are no big deal. They can either be cancelled or rescheduled for a future year.

The tricky one are your multi-year deals. I’d like to think that the schools scheduled to be be the visitors in 2020 would be open to making trips to honor the missed 2020 games on a later date. Another option, if the 2nd leg of a home and home is yet to be played, would be to split the revenue of the to-be-played game.

I just don’t see schools like Oregon going to Ohio St in 2021 to play for free because the game in Eugene for 2020 couldn’t be played. I also think it would be unfair to schools who already travelled to play someone in 2019 or earlier to not see the return game honored.

the problem is for college football in your last paragraph- teams are already like 10-12 years in the future for scheduling. It's rough.

Personally hoping this conference only scheduling is adopted going forward. Only true OOC rivalry games should remain.

Utah's AD said in twitter that next year's BYU vs Utah football game will continue on as scheduled (@ BYU) and the cancelled game (scheduled for @ Utah) just goes away--so it sounds like cancelled games are just over assuming there was a clause for backing out due to unforeseen circumstances that prevent it.

This would be awful. I saw Auburn, both home and away, play LSU, Alabama and Georgia enough times during college. The only Auburn games I even look forward to going to these days are OOC.

Congratulations for having the single worst take on this board in a long time. Yes - let's end intersectional games like USC/Alabama, or things like the Ohio State/Oklahoma series from a couple of years ago. Or even fun and memorable one off games like App State/Michigan, or Oklahoma/Army, or even the Commander in Chief trophy.

I sure hope nobody takes this route on any kind of permanent basis.

What'll come of this may be more centralized scheduling. The more likely outcome, though, is continued chaos.

You look forward to Alcorn State, Southern Miss, and UMass more than an Alabama game?

If the season ends up cancelled or everyone plays conference only everyone could slide their entire future schedules 1 year.

not sure logistically they could do that.

It'd be like pausing a movie and coming back a year later. IF the 10 FBS conferences agreed to slide the schedules.

In theory, sure. In practice, with 100+ schools and thousands of contracts, not so simple. It's not like a pro sports league where the central office handles all the scheduling.

Good point, probably actually ends up being cleaner just erasing the 2020 OOC.
Sucks for my program which is having trouble getting P6 OOC on the schedule.

If season is moved to Spring and if things are a lot better then ALL twelve games could be played and all contracts fulfilled by starting February 20th. Or start Feb. 27th with eleven games allowing most FBS contracts to be fulfilled.

doesn't work as any players who are projected draftees would just sit out the season and get ready for the NFL draft.

Think a guy like Trevor Lawrence from Clemson would suit up and play this spring, when he'd be a lock to be the #1 player taken in the draft? No chance.

I'm inclined to believe that there is already something about situations like this in the game contracts. Not sure what that might be, but situations have arisen before that have cancelled games (hurricanes come to mind). The lawyers have it covered, but I'm sure the home teams lose out and are still contractually obligated for the return game.

Due to the quality of our home OOC schedule this year I pray that the games get made up. Doubt it happens though.
