The parade existed LONG before the bowl game. Tournament of Roses Parade, Tournament of Roses or Rose Parade are acceptable names. It AIN'T the Rose Bowl Parade.

They started the football game to raise money to fund the parade.

The marchers getup at 2 am, board buses at 3:30 am and the route is 5.5 miles.

This is from UMass Media and a minute and 39 seconds.

Its basically time to start working on the floats, so they had to make the decision now.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, and New Years Eve in Times Square are on the clock.

Although if we do have a solid vaccine in place before the end of the year, we might have a pretty rocking New Years Eve after all.

Would be shocked beyond compare if either happen. Unless social distancing is completely done with no chance of it coming back, neither event can work. Plus even if they get a vaccine ahead of schedule, it has to be available, effective and inexpensive to most Americans, and that takes time.

Though there's a dark part of me that wants to see the Macy's parade balloons marching through deserted streets ...

All that needs to happen is for someone to declare the Rose Bowl Parade, Macy's Parade, & New Year's "protests." Then they can proceed as normal.

Except that polls show that over 30% of people will refuse the vaccine. Herd immunity requires minimum 85% taking the vaccine for this virus (because it's fairly easy to catch). So there's a zero percent chance of achieving herd immunity through a vaccine.

And the shifting goalposts on this thing guarantees that by then we'll have to shut down everything for a single positive remaining case (one death is too many!). Unless Biden wins in November, then the narrative will shift.

Macy’s already pulled all marching bands for 2020 & pushed all bands scheduled to attend back one year.

No better place to discuss partisan ideas about covid-19 than a Rose Parade thread on a sports message board!
