Too bad it couldn’t go out before the election, when the pandemic was still happening. Now that covid’s over, I wonder what they’ll do with all those vaccine doses!

RE: Validity of covid pandemic
Let me add, I do believe it is real. I was just reporting the information like Joe Friday would. I think it is great news. I also think Northam has done a good job and I like how the Utah governor has made changes for the next couple of weeks. Things change and I think our responses should change with the information at hand.
I have no links to support my opinions.

RE: Validity of covid pandemic
The guy in the office next to me lost his mother and mother in law in the last two months due to covid.
A 52 year old man 3 doors down from me passed away 3 weeks ago last Sunday due to covid.
Another guy from our marketing team (around 40) here in the corporate office got covid about 2 months ago, came back and seemed fine. He's been hospitalized the last week, and had an operation to drain his lungs this morning.
The first to were late 70's and early 80's so they were in the elderly catagory.
The 52 did have a pre-existing condition.
Have no idea, about the guy in the early 40's.
One thing I am pretty sure, is if not for covid three would still be alive, and one would not be in concerning condition in the hospital.
It just seems a little worse than the "flu" to me, but some of you guys obviously now better.
How do you protect 1/3 of the population that is vulnerable, when too many think wearing a mask infringes on their rights?

RE: Validity of covid pandemic
The good news...Maderna's vaccine is reportedly over 94% effective.
The bads news...as predicted by the experts, this thing is getting worse and worse. Over 1 million positive cases in the last week alone. We are approaching 250K deaths. Hospitalizations are higher than ever...and, getting worse. The entire healthcare foundation is already under significant stress and likely going to get worse.
The vaccine(s) is good news, but we are going to suffer bigly while waiting for them to get approved and distributed. We'll see what happens with hospital capabilities and capacities. It is conceivable by January 1st that the U.S. will be close to 350K deaths at our current trend.

The haha hoax comments....or election is over, crisis aveered... i dont get it. Maybe you are taking out frustration on The Donald but id venture that most on these board dont believe the virus is a hoax. What we are trying to convey is that #1 science proves that mask wearing aint doing nothing to stop the spread. Why.. becuae this is getting spread like all other viruses.... close, personal sustained contact with a symptomatic or pre symptomatic individual. As i discussed with hyper on other thread... most of us weat masks....so anger at 3000 cases because of those mom mask wearees? Whos not wesring a mask... i go out grocery and everyone is masked. Why 3000 cases today? Maybe because families got together for Thanksgiving ie close personal contact? We just want people to see data and not just reiterate what the cdc says today.... they aint learned nothing they didnt know...they just started lying to us... people feel safer with masks i guess. A d it makes politicians look like they can do something....

The King of Sweden... "I think we have failed". Sweden chose the idiotic "herd immunity" approach. Sweden has the higest number of COVID-related deaths in the Nordic region both in whole and per capita.

The above link is behind a paywall. Looking at all of European countries, Sweden is about right in the middle when it comes to deaths per million according to Worldometer as of about 4:15 PM today. Most of the countries higher than Sweden have done the shutdown approach..So do all those countries above Sweden also have morons at the top?

RE: Validity of covid pandemic
If masks don't work, then why are the flu related cases down?
I have gotten the flu every year for the last 3 years in Oct/Nov. It's been like clockwork. All of a sudden, I wear a mask and others wear masks and I am not sick with the flu! Wow what a hoax this mask wearing is!
It doesn't make you immune, but it sure as hell makes a difference.

I don't believe locking things down is the answer, but there has to be a capacity limit in places with a high volume of people. That graph doesn't mean that things get worse when you lock down. That would be like saying an air bag kills you when you are drinking alcohol and driving. States can lockdown but they can't do anything about it. There's no way to enforce it. As a result, people say f*** it and do whatever they want. The difference isn't that one place has a lockdown and one place doesn't. It has way more to do with population density. The same reason why rural areas were hit with this later than major cities. Cities have had stricter rules in place, so does that mean the rules are the cause of the spread?? Of course not. One does not equal the other.
Businesses need to be open, but they need to be open safely in a way that doesn't put people's lives at risk.

RE: Validity of covid pandemic
By end of the weekend, perhaps by end of today, the U.S. will surpass the 350,000 death mark. Hopefully this "warp speed" phase of distribution and application of vaccines will live up to what it was supposedly going to be.
