Ok, anybody who doesn't have COVID-19, the bubonic plague, polio, syphilis, or a bad case of the crabs, we'll play you on Saturday at wherever. Thanks

Honestly. At this point, I would gladly welcome you to Huntington this weekend even though we already played. We need any game in my opinion, and won't get to make up one of our conference games already anyway

USM is playing UAB in Birmingham at 11:30 on Saturday. That's about halfway between us. Let's meet there and play at 9AM, then the two game losers meet at 4PM and the winners play at 7:30PM and call it a regular season. All referee play reviews that take 2 minutes get decided by a coin flip and any overtime games get decided by the best 2 of 3 in Rock/Paper/Scissors. A COVID claim = Forfeit Loss. Deal?

Well, this means FIU probably won’t play us next week either.

Butch is trying to avoid another embarrassment. It is very clear.
LA Tech would've won that game easily.

Honestly, it seems like some of these football programs would have "Herd Immunity" kicking in by now.

Deal... However, a see your overtime rock/paper/scissors and raise you a field goal only, soccer styled, "penalty" shootout. Starts at the 25 yard line and moves back five yard after every make.

Let me preface this comment by saying I really do think it's time for a coaching change.
BUT.
FIU has been decimated this year by a combination of injuries and COVID results. FIU was down to 41 available players by the end of the WKU game. That is insane for D1 football. How can we realistically expect to compete with literally less than half a roster of scholarship players?
Again, to start the season, FIU lost by two points on the road to Liberty. They had a two-point conversion to tie the game and force OT, but the TE was wide open and dropped the pass. With each week that passed, more key starters went down for season-ending injuries, more COVID results came back positive (including 17 false positives in the MT week), and the FIU football roster is only a shadow of what it was that first week. The team has regressed each week as a result.
I know FIU isn't the only program dealing with COVID and injuries. But I'd be pretty surprised if there was any other team in this conference that was down to 41 available players.
Maybe you could convince me otherwise?

If you don't have enough players you don't have enough players. You can't start the game and in the middle of it say "We have no more LBs or DL, we're going to have to forfeit the rest of this game."
The biggest problem is the "contact tracing" BS whereby a player is "ineligible" because they were briefly near someone who was briefly near someone who tested positive. The 'safety' bar for athletic events is ABSURD compared to the regular population. Go to a political rally/protest/riot, the mall, the park, a "neighborhood yard party", etc and you can wear a mask, not wear a mask, do your own thing. But go to an athletic event and all of a sudden there is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT attitude. People aren't catching COVID-19 at athletic events, they are catching it at parties, the park, shopping centers,...

The question is - are your coaches and players following the right protocols to avoid Covid in the first place? Talking about injuries is fine, but injuries have never been a reason to postpone a game.
Assuming that with walk-ons you have 100-105 players like every other team, sounds odd that you would be down to 41 players. Maybe 41 decent players, but not 41 total players.

And Fish, don’t take that as me going after you. I respect you as essentially the only FIU fan on here. Look at what UK did Saturday. There’s a difference between willing and able. UK, very short handed, was still willing to play. They played walk-ons against Alabama, but they fulfilled their obligations.

You raise good points, Banker.
The line of what is considered "safe" seems quite arbitrary. FIU is not in a good situation. Cancelling the game looks bad. Getting your butt beat by La Tech looks bad. Being 0-5 looks bad. It's just a sucky situation.
Here's the FIU roster: https://fiusports.com/sports/football/roster
Looks to be about ~90-95 players. I know FIU has had about ~20 guys go down for season ending injuries. Others have missed multiple games since then. From the participation reports, FIU played 70 players last year against WKU. As I said before, they were down to 41 this week. It's just silly.

Its getting depressing for LA Tech fans. This is the 4th in a row that has been cancelled or postponed. We had three players opt out over that period which tells me the team thinks the season is over. At, 4-3 we really needed these games to build a resume for a bowl game. Rice & UNT would have both been tough games, but we really thought we could come away with wins against ULM and FIU. 8-3 to 6-5 would really have helped our chances at getting a bowl this year.

Covid can depart now. Tech football is the only football I care to watch these days.

College Football has been one of the few things in 2020 I could look forward to and 4 weeks in a row of no Tech football is a real gut punch.
