Wallace and Kelley should be our point. This last game resulted in a very balanced game by everyone who played. Also I cannot remember the shot clock ever being run down to the last tick. Everyone scored and moved around better without the ball than in any other game this year. Parker is our best consistant scorer no question, who can score 30 on any given night if he really wanted to. But it would take others out of the game and we'd probably lose half those games. Parker at the point has taken others out of the game who fail to move around and seem to wait and see what Jasons going to do while he holds on to the ball until the last few ticks. I can remember already this year, times the shot clock running all the way down and having many unproductive trips down the court. This happened last year alot too.
I feel the most positive stides we will see in this team with Wallace or Kelley bringing the ball up, is the mindset for everyone to get open and shoot, set screens and get assists like a TEAM and not Jasons TEAM.
I was encouraged by this last games effort.
Go TU!!!

I agree 100%!!!!!!!!!!! Parker is not the best point guard for this TEAM!! I don't know, he may end up a point guard in pro ball--somewhere, but we need someone that makes this a TEAM. I hope he does score 30 points a game but not by dribbling around for 25 seconds while everyone watches. I firmly believe Jason is the leader of this team but he can do that better from the 2 spot!!

bump.
Jason's a natural two guard. Last game, he still created off the dribble here and there, but it was within the flow of the offense. Worked out well.

I know alot of fans are down on the signing of Wallace. He just needs more minutes to really see if he can counter his weaknesses at point. I too don't see him as a prototypical point. Because he has not proven, as of yet, the ability to score. Not to say this is needed if he had the other intangibles of slashing and knifing around players to get good dishes or easy layups, ala Lavander. He hasn't had the minutes to get tested in every situation yet. I know he can bring the ball up with only his man guarding him, but not sure if he has handled full court pressure enough to give him a good grade at bringing the ball up. Kelley obviously shows the mentality and has the physical skills to be a very effective point. I am hoping JP lets them share time to allow Wallace the opportunity for more minutes to get more confidence in his shot. If he's not able to create easy layups from the ability to penetrate, then he must hit his outside shots. Otherwise the defense will just play him loose and needless to say, what a waste.
I'm pulling for the kid to gain confidence and take charge out there and cause the other team to respect his presence on the floor. If he fails we can try Blankenship.
Go Tu!!!

I think a good dose of attitude would do this team some good - floor presence as you put it.

Overall the PG's job has changed in recent years, especially in the Big Ten and East Coast. His job isn't ball handling and passing the ball inside for an assist. Today his main job is to drive the middle, whether there is anyplace to go or not and get fouled or pass it to one of the big men on his way, so they either get an easy bucket or get fouled. It's not what I call BB, but that's the way they play on the streets and now it's part of college ball-----------A REALLY BIG PART!!!

I guess that depends on the type of team you have. We sure do not have enough physical players to bang with some of them teams. But we do have penetrators in Jason, Jarius and Kelley. And a good enough supporting cast to play a respectable game with anyone. We need dominating characters to emerge in every game, playing with the heart of Jarius.

One thing Wallace does bring to the table is good defense. Last year when he spelled Reed/Swanson/Parker, you knew he wouldn't score, but he'd be in the opposing PG's pocket. With those long arms, he's an excellent defender.
Just thought I'd say something positive about him, because I like the kid. He's been injured all year, so it's hard to project how he's going to perform. As long as he plays D and limits turnovers, he should get minutes along with Kelly. One scores, one shuts down the opposing PG...

Supposedly, McDade is practicing to be the point guard of the future. If Kelley turns out to be the primary PG by the end of this year and getting little if any time at the 2 spot, I think you could see McDade transfer. I would hate to see a tremendous scorer like McDade leave the team. The one position on the team you would want decided on by the time the season starts every year is PG!!! You sure the heck don't want 3 guys playing point guard during the course of a game and that's kind of what we have now. The PG runs the ship and right now no one is running the ship. To paraphase an old saying, if you have 3 guys playing PG, you don't have a point guard!!! I believe that was originally about quarterbacks but it is the same in BB with PG's!!!

Kelley will NOT be the point of the future, no way, no how. He is a shooter/scorer and that is his mentality. McDade is not going ANYWHERE, he is being groomed as the point for the future, Kelley as the 2 guard. If anyone is going to be left out, it will be Wallace...

I'm glad to hear Kelley's future is at the 2 spot and not PG. If they can make McDade a decent PG that will give us two big time scorers at the PG and 2 spot. Then just put 3 big guys with them and you got a pretty good team for the future!!!!
