What he means is: markets like predictability. This is absolutely true.

But are totalitarian governments more predictable than democracies? Totalitarian governments can (and do) change economic policy overnight because there's no one who can say, "no."

Markets also don't like governments seizing private assets. Hugo Chavez, Erdogen, Putin, the Saudi crown prince - all of them arbitrarily seized private assets.

And when it comes to regime change... regime changes happen more often in democracies. But regime changes are MUCH more predictable in democracies than in totalitarian regimes.

Agreed on all points.

With that said, those wishing to “influence” the market for them favorably know exactly whom to go to in totalitarian governments. The payola is to a smaller known group. No?
