RE: Chicago State football study
I posted an article over the weekend going a little more in detail on this in the CSU forum. They’re hoping to get the study started by the end of this year. In particular, scholarship vs non-scholarship.

The article also mentioned the Cougars would be looking at beach volleyball, lacrosse, or triathlon on the women’s side.

It’ll be interesting what happens. Definitely will tune into the podcast.

This athletic administration is constantly working though to improve the department so I’m excited for the future of Cougar Athletics.

Non scholarship football could be huge for them, their enrollment. Getting 80-120 students on campus and paying tuition is good for CSU. It will also lead to better community, alumni engagement and all the other intangibles

The question becomes will Pioneer take them? I’d think yes

But do they need scholarships to find an all sports home? Not sure how much that moves the needle and/or if OVC interested

I think the feasibility study will say a lot as well in terms of scholarship/non-scholarship. I’d have to think they’d start of as non-scholarship just to be able to get things off the ground. But the admin has carefully thought out several changes so far, so if they believe the numbers suggest things will work (either way).. I trust their judgment.

I’d have to agree with you that non-scholarship wouldn’t really benefit them much when it comes to OVC.. however, PFL *should* be an option.

If I hear any greater clarity on it I’ll be sure to share.

RE: Chicago State football study
I noticed last week on the 9/18 Board of Trustees agenda they had the following topics:
• Intercollegiate Athletics
o Status Update on Intercollegiate Athletics
Resolution on Sports Expansion
Resolution on Funding Sports Expansion

https://www.csu.edu/boardoftrustees/agen...8-2023.pdf

Unfortunately, they didn’t have a link to listen to the meeting. I followed up this week regarding the recording, and was informed it should be up next week. I had hoped to listen in to it before making any assumptions regarding whether the BoT approve the request to move forward with sports expansion, and particularly, football. But it looks like they did indeed give the approval for it!

They’re adding women’s triathlon for Fall 2024, and hope to have the fundraising necessary to add football for Fall 2025. The potential addition of women’s swimming is also referenced on the fundraising page.

Great time to support the Cougars!
