i feel the biggest change in this game was Memphis finally embracing this is Nolley's team (and the older players)

he is a returning 1st team all-conference, NIT mvp..and you had him doing drastically less minutes than last year...had him coming off the bench most of the season..
and when trouble hit (with him on the bench) penny buried him even deeper ..It wasnt about stats but impact

in crunch time the only new player he played was duren...

will be interesting to see the dynamic when timberlake returns from his injury...will that push nolly back down again

honestly, Memphis definitely plays sloppy in spots. But I do think they have been a little unlucky. Murray St was lights out from 3, they've had a couple of games where FT shooting has killed them, etc.

I actually think you're onto something. Penny has said all along that the players have felt they could just walk out on the court and win all these games.

And tonight they played like they should have been playing all along.

Here's what I came away with --- Emoni Bates isn't ready mentally or physically for major college basketball.

Agree. We're not back yet.

But a Tennessee win would go a long way. That would be 3 Q1 wins already, iirc. We never had a single one last season.

Penny still had 10 players in by the first 7 minutes or so. That was everybody available tonight except maybe C. Lawson. Not sure what's up with him.

But Penny finally clamped down on the rotation in the second half, for maybe the first time this season, except one other 10 minute close out stretch (I forget which game).

P, I don't think Timberlake will bump out Nolley when he comes back. Nolley is too valuable when he's on. And he actually played defense tonight.

Unlucky + not in a solid rhythm

Played Iowa State good until halftime when they took off and gave our players their first comeback situation of the year in order to win vs a very good team. Iowa State was never going to let that happen playing the #9 team in the nation.

Georgia was the first true road game, basically trading baskets the entire game. We had no energy yet stayed in the game the whole time. I truly think the whole team just wasn't given it their all and thought we would win at the very end and call it a night. This is definitely our worse loss so far just because of the lack of fight causing the loss.

Ole Miss was a tough game vs a rival after a bad loss. You could tell the fight was there but unfortunately it's very difficult to beat any rival especially during a skid of losses. Ole Miss won a nail biter and took advantage of a very frustrated team.

Murray State... a complete disaster. We could have been undefeated and lost this game with the way the Racers played. It seemed like they couldn't miss a shot. It's shocking we only lost by a single basket. This will be a good loss at the end of the year and I expect Murray to not only come out of the OVC champions but do it with only a few losses.

Eight Memphis players got 194 minutes tonight. First time for everything, Penny. Hopefully, he remembers this.

And I honestly think Penny should give most of Lomax's minutes to Harris.
