Any hastily conceived system can be gamed, though.
In the above hypothetical (Houston dodging Memphis) let’s say going in to the last game Houston leads the standings by a game and a half and will clinch the one-seed win or lose. But maybe they still need to play the final game to qualify for the new 75% games played standard. Memphis in that scenario could knock Houston out of the top seed by “bailing”.

Sounds like the rule is if you have 7 scholarship players and a coach available the game has to be played, and I think that's extremely fair and helps eliminate just "bailing" for no good reason. Set a standard that if you meet you play regardless of how good or bad the scholarship players available are.

AAC changes forfeit policy after UH-UC basketball cancellation
Yeah it actually looks like a good policy given the current reality of things.

Yeah, apparently when we lose a game to Covid, it doesn't matter, but when Houston loses one...the league changes the policy. 03-lmfao

Totally makes sense that the AAC would shield a team that's leaving after next year. Tinfoil time.

Was there a fact I missed? Memphis lost a game to Covid. No change. Houston loses a game to Covid. Immediate change.

I didn't state anything other than what actually happened. I don't think the AAC is shielding Houston. I just think they weren't spurred to action until the preseason favorite took a conference loss due to Covid. Due to the timing, that is an obvious fact.

Yes, you're missing the fact that this policy pertains to conference games. Memphis hasn't played a conference game yet, therefore hasn't lost a conference game to Covid, so your argument is misplaced just a bit.

How did your OOC games against Tennessee and Alcorn get recorded? Win? Loss? No contest?

This is the correct answer.

lol---I think the reasoning when this orignal policy was decided was if your cant get your kids vaccinated---then you should bear the brunt of a Covid cancellation. The situation has changed dramatically with Omicron as roughly half of the infections (or more) are among the vaccinated. Thus, I think the rethinking of the policy has less to do with Houston and more to do with a realistic assessment of where we are as a nation with Omicron. That said---I do agree that the new cancellation policy should be applied to any conference games lost earlier in the season. Omicron was probably was the cause of those cancellations as well.

I didn't miss that fact. My point was, the conference should have changed it earlier. It was dumb to begin with.

We're going to punish teams b/c players get sick? Even getting vaxxed doesn't prevent that, and you can't (or shouldn't) force healthy young men to get vaxxed against a disease that almost certainly has mild consequences for them, if they or their families don't want to do it. And natural immunity seems to work as well or better.

Other than that, I just used the Memphis-Houston example b/c it's funny.

Let’s also not lose sight of the fact that really Memphis was just as much of a preseason favorite as Houston…

Until people actually started playing basketball
