There was always separation between the Power 5 and Gang of 5 conferences, but could this lead to a further separation of programs within the Power 5's? Not every Power 5 is loaded with a never-ending surplus of funds like Alabama, and if the national title game is Alabama and Georgia every other year, could this ruin college football?

Saban as usual is afraid his advantages will go away. Others will be able to compete with him. Saban is always about self-interest.

In any event, the courts really will not allow much regulation. It was the weakest link in the NCAA amateur model. Why could a musician give music lessons or write a book about music but a Division III golfer couldn't write a book that only peripherally related to golf?

There wasn't too much separation yet from the BCS and WAC/CUSA in 1995. Likewise the MAC had more in common with FCS programs than WAC/CUSA in 1995.

The collective G5 consciousness evolved over time up until the first CFP contract.
