I just ran across the name Maya Cunningham as the latest 2023 commit from Shelton Community College, same college that Maggie Robinson attended.

Side note: Are the ladies playing any Exhibition games this year, or having any open practices, or coaching clinics ? We normally get a chance to see them before the season starts. A tradition I surely hope doesn't go away !!!

RE: Women's Basketball Recruiting 2022 & 2023
A few things of note: Ashanti Barnes-Williams who transferred at the end of the 2021 season, spent last year at Trinity CC and has now resurfaced at JMU. Anjanae Richardson, a promising 2023 PG commit from Manor HS in Portsmouth, decommits and is now committed to Norfolk St. Previously, Jaedyn Cook a decent 2023 6-3 post player from Richmond decommitted and signed with East Carolina. But on the bright side, as of right now we have 4 mediocre JUCOS coming in and DMJ has been named to the staff of the U-19 World Cup Teams staff so once again she's off to do her own thing. I'm not liking the direction the women's program is going.

Agreed... red flags everywhere with DMJ in my opinion.

It's certainly not good but unfortunately I don't see it improving anytime soon.

It's like ODU doesn't have any leadership at the top. The Men's and Women's basketball teams have both been in decline for the past several years. The football team isn't setting the world on fire either. In my opinion, none of these teams have been performing at the level that they are capable of.
Remember when we were told that the new basketball practice facility would be a boost to recruiting?

Every single freshman recruit by DMJ in her 3 year tenure is no longer on the team except Mikayla Brown (give it the summer). Would love an explanation for this. We even have freshmen yet to step foot on campus (Richardson & Cook) saying thanks but no thanks. I guess those HOF credentials get you nowhere in women’s recruiting.

Bottom line, she is a self promoter using ODU and not a very good coach

It’s taken me a bit longer to come to a similar conclusion but the more I’ve watched and the few times I’ve been around her in person, I totally agree.

Correct. She will be at ODU as long as they allow, and not because she will be leaving for a "better" job. The product you have seen so far with her as HC is what ODU WBB will be as long as she remains HC.

Sounds just like another basketball coach Wood has allowed to be here as long as they wish. I was actually much more optimistic about DMJ.

People seem more worried about the additions/subtractions than her actual results. She's done pretty well the past 2 years.

Well I wouldn't characterize what she has done as pretty well IMO. If Coach Nikki was still here we win the sunbelt IMO and would have done as well if not better than JMU this past season. DMJ is not a good coach or recruiter IMO

I said this early on in her career and it's nothing but been reinforced that I feared she was a more decorated Barefoot. But in hindsight I think Barefoot was a much better recruiter.

With ODUs history in women's basketball, Im hard pressed to call anything other than a Sun Belt championship "pretty well". Even a WNIT is hard for me to get excited about considering where we were just a couple decades ago.

Giles are you sure you’re not related to Selig?

What we are now has no relevance to our advantages in 1995

Stat, all due respect, but we won 22 games and not even rate a WNIT appearance, because the schedule was putrid. That is on the coaching staff. Watching the games, she does not manage the game well and has no real plays when the game is on the line. Combining all this with the talent leaving and not being replaced with equal talent is why I state she is not a good coach. I stand by my statement and the results seem to be on my side.
