It was sad (but fun! ) to listen to the CBU announcer all weekend. On Friday he was proclaiming the greatness of CBU's 7-0 start, the amazing hitting and pitching of the CBU players, etc... His tune quickly changed as GCU started pounding CBU pitching and GCU's pitchers were recording double digit strike out games.
GCU now has a victory over #7 ranked Arizona (a 19-3 drubbing), the predicted Mountain West champs (Nevada) and the predicted Big West champs (UC Irvine).
So far so good.
"BEat GCU" though, right?

RE: Baseball Time
Hornets follow up their best ever start with possibly their worst week ever.
Last Tuesday: 2-6 loss at Cal. Hornet pitching implodes in the 6th as Takacs gave up 4 runs. Bojorquez scored the only Hornet runs with a 2 run HR in the 4th.
Friday: 21-4 win against Houston Baptist. Hornet bats erupt as Valero led the way with 3 HRs.
Saturday, Game 1: 1-4 loss. Hornets fail to get a clutch hit and leave 11 runners on base.
Saturday, Game 2: 2-3 loss. Hornet bats go quiet and only have 3 hits on the game.
Sunday: 1-4 loss. Hornets strand 11 base runners.
Tuesday: 1-8 loss vs Saint Mary’s. Hornet pitching gave up 8 runs on 10 hits and the Hornet bats couldn’t string anything together.
The Cal (6-6) and St. Mary's (12-1) loses aren't concerning. Dropping 3 of 4 to a below average HBU (6-8) program is.
Hornets (8-5) close the homestand and open up WAC play as Dixie State (6-5) comes to town for a 3 game series.

Seattle took 2 of three from NMSU. Game 1 was 12-13 in 13 innings, Game 2 was 3-4, Game 3 was 9-0. Odd series.
At Nebraska during the week for two games before heading to St. George to play Dixie.

The WAC's top divisional favorite, ACU, still struggles with consistency and loses 2 of 3 with UTRGV to start conference play at 1-2; just 8-7 over-all now.

GCU was up 8-5 against #5 Oregon State, only to lose by one (9 to 8). Great game! Fun to watch even though we lost.
GCU is now 9-8 on the season. We get one more crack at the OSU Beavers tomorrow.

Sam Houston rallied from 9-2 down to beat Baylor in Huntsville yesterday; Sam is having some pitching issues (one of the weekend starters is out) so this game featured a lot of backend of the bullpen guys knowing that the Kats play at Rice tonight.
That was the seventh straight win, Kats are now 11-5 on the season. That sweep at Dallas Baptist hurts (lost 2-0, 3-2 and 4-1).
Here's the walk off hit

GCU takes down #5 Oregon State 13-7 to split the midweek series. That is now two victories for the Lopes over Pac-12 schools and top 25 teams.

Wildcats win second game against SFA (11-8) and bat 447 for the game. Maybe hitting is coming around to last year's norm.

Up next are four games on the road. Tuesday at our cross town rivals, Arizona State, and at Sacramento State Friday through Sunday.
