Agree. Lack of home games has always been an issue at schools that can’t buy them. But the doom and gloom about not being able to get any games after the New Years break were overblown. Same with no availability for games after conference play begins. That isn’t the case either. For example, WAC conference play begins in December but Chicago still has games versus 2 WAC teams during the conference season, like I predicted would happen. Any conference with odd numbers has time off that coaches hate. No one wants to go into an important game cold with no game for a week. And everyone will take a home game.

I am going to be very interested to see how our new coach handles the talent he has brought in, which is pretty outstanding for a school at our level. If he can negotiate his way through all of that and foster a team-first attitude, this program might possibly take a huge step forward this season.

Nov 7 (Mon) @Northwestern
Nov 11 (Fri) @ St. Thomas
Nov 14 (Mon) HOME vs IUPUI
Nov 16 (Wed) HOME vs Valparaiso
Nov 19 (Sat) @ Kent State
Nov 21 (Mon) @ Marshall
Nov 23 (Wed) @ Cleveland State // Cleveland State MTE (November 18–23)
Nov 26 (Sat) @ Marquette
Dec 1 (Thu) @ Bethne-Cookman
Dec 4 (Sun) HOME vs Southern Indiana
Dec 11 (Sun) @ Tennessee-Martin
Dec 13 (Tue) @ Murray State
Dec 16 (Fri) @ Southern Illinois
Dec 19 (Mon) @ Illinois State
Dec 22 (Thu) @ Minnesota
Dec 28 (Wed) @ Ball State
Dec 30 (Fri) @ Ohio
Jan 9 (Mon) HOME vs East-West
Jan 11 (Wed) @ Tarleton State
Jan 14 (Sat) @ UTRGV
Jan 23 (Mon) @ Coastal Carolina
Jan 25 (Wed) @ Stanford
Jan 28 (Sat) HOME vs Aurora
Jan 30 (Mon) @ Citadel
Feb 4 (Sat) @ Hartford
Feb 7 (Tue) @ Delaware State
Feb 11 (Sat) HOME vs Saint Xavier
Feb 17 (Fri) HOME vs Calumet College

With this Gonzaga game, it’s almost as though Chicago State has as a “16 seed” game versus likely 1 seed. At least that’s how they will likely see their opportunity. At least it’s a very similar experience to what a low seed has. You fly halfway across the country to take on a Goliath at the end of the season.

Of course, some might say it’s different because the NCAA Tournament is an “earned” reward for a good season or winning a conference tournament, but this matchup is also earned by Chicago playing an Indy schedule and being available at a time when literally no one else needs that game or would be wanted by the Zags.

Btw, for those that don’t know, the WCC has allowed their top seeds an automatic semi final spot in their conference tournament. So a team like Gonzaga basically sits for a week while the lower seeds play a lot of games. Good for GU to have no chance of an early upset to a bad team, but they are also virtually guaranteed to be facing a good team without having played for a while themselves.

Many people here probably knew that, but in case some didn’t, I wanted to explain the odd timing of this game and the reason behind it. This game gives Gonzaga a chance for a tuneup before a big conference tourney game.

The women’s schedule hasn’t been discussed yet. They have a nice schedule early, but weren’t as lucky as the men after the new year. Last real D1 game is January 3. Hartford doesn’t count I don’t believe.

One of the highlights of the schedule is a home date with Colorado. Also hosting UIC, EIU and WIU is good as they generally bring some fans. Other home games are Florida Atlantic, Western Michigan, and NC Central.

12 home games, including 7 D1 is fine for a year like this.

Only a couple big road trips. Flights will be very, very minimal which is always good for the pocket book. I’m surprised they are not traveling greater distances.

Games versus Big East, Pac 12, Big 10, Missouri Valley and several smaller conferences. It’s a good mix.

The Cougars added another March game a while back I forgot to post. They will play at Fresno State on March 4.
