I agree. I’ll excuse us playing Talladega as they are in the next county but playing the other three is a joke. Hopefully we can move away from these now that we are in a bigger name conference.

At least we aren’t playing Carver.

I agree about Talladega... plus, that one's just an exhibition, anyway.

I'm a little less enthused about NAIA Brescia for our (actual) opening game. I assume coach just wants to get the newly assembled roster some game experience before we face D-I competition. I'll let this one go, I guess, but it's not at all an exciting way to start the season.

Then we have 12 straight D-I opponents, which is more like it, with a few really solid teams in the mix.

And then ... two D-II teams in a row in late December: Fort Valley State and Trevecca Nazarene. What the...?!

I'm OK with Dega, I can excuse Brescia, but there's no excuse for back-to-back D-II games at the end of the nonconference schedule. That's really the biggest disappointment of this schedule for me.

That, and the fact there aren't very many "marquee" opponents on the nonconference schedule. West Virginia and Wisconsin. That's it. Really a letdown for our first season in CUSA.

RE: Future C-USA Basketball Schedules
One problem is that even teams/coaches in the "same boat" and same general geography are averse to scheduling.

NEED MORE possible opponents from these leagues:

JSU----- SoCON, SBC, ASUN-- only THREE total from these conferences

WKU---- MVC, MAC, SBC--only TWO total

Coaches (on both sides) are "chicken". They want easy wins to keep their job.

RE: Future C-USA Basketball Schedules
For WKU---

Example--- WHY is WKU flying to California Baptist?

(Yes I am aware of the WAC deal)

Why not BUS to Southern Illinois (only three hours)??

--and get a return home game

-- good net rating opponent

-- cheap travel

-- regional interest

**BECAUSE it takes TWO. BOTH coaches have to be willing to play and find workable dates.

If one of the two--for WHATEVER reason--is not interested--then the possibility falls flat.

RE: Future C-USA Basketball Schedules
As I stated in a different thread IMO CUSA goes to Eighteen League games next year (only had 16 this season).

True round-robin with the addition of 10th member Kennesaw State. Two away games in one trip-- JSU-KSU (only 86 miles apart).

Also hope the conference passes a rule LIMITING D2 or below games as part of the Regular Season schedule.

The OVC will be limiting it to TWO---surely CUSA can limit those games to ONE (now that we will have 18 CUSA games).

CUSA had a scheduling balagan this year and seemed to be more willing on the non-D1 games this year. If the CUSA is playing 18 games (which makes sense) and also maintains the CUSA/WAC Challenge (thereby giving everyone 20 set games) - it seems no brainer to limit the non-D1 games.

I would prefer to remove the WAC challenge if it isn't modified to be later in the year and based off current NET standings.

For some of our programs it makes sense. For others not so much.

I would rather play any MVC opponent. Toledo, Akron, or Ohio. JMU, ODU, Marshall, Georgia State. Charleston. Most of the A-10 and AAC. Just off the top of my head.

I agree! But--we are still obligated for one more season on the WAC agreement.

The WAC "challenge" could be continued after next season--just reduce the number of CUSA teams to six or four--let schools not interested "opt out".

That’s a quality line-up. A P5 school. UAB has been consistently good under Andy Kennedy. McNeese should be strong again. ISU is a good program. Hopefully the rebuilt Flames can hold their own.

RE: Future C-USA Basketball Schedules
We appear to have done well in the portal and redshirted our highest rated signee ever. I am anticipating significant improvement this next season.

As for the Paradise Jam lineup, honestly it is a bit subpar for the preseason tourneys we usually get. But hopefully we score some Ws in the USVIs.

The Paradise Jam is an 8-team tournament so there are still two teams yet to be named in the field.
