"Effective" - hmmm. It is supposed to be effective, could not prove it by last week. I guess we will see.

Well, we usually suck playing at your place. Plus, the forecast has about a 40% chance of rain.

EDIT: That was last weekend. Precip chance now only 6%. Whew.

We're definitely not mudders. No rain please............

This looks to be a problem year for Navy. I got Memphis by 14. Take the points and the under at 50.5. I see this 31-17 Tigers.

Well, I don't think one game defines a season for either of us. We beat MS State last season, but finished 6-6, losing a few games where we were favored. Maybe Navy got some sense knocked into them by Delaware.

I always hate this game, because being a Navy veteran, they are my second favorite team.

I think we're all closet Navy fans until they play our particular team. I'd be ok if they could both win, but since they can't, GTG!

MS is a good team and there is certainly no shame in losing to them.

Delaware is a good FCS team and exactly the kind of FCS team that one can lose to if one does not bring one's A-game. That said - they are not MS by any means. Navy's offense looked absolutely atrocious for almost the whole game.

Maybe they get their stuff together and it is a competitive game. There have been some times where Navy has completely failed to execute in one game and then come back and looked pretty good later, so it is not impossible. We will see.

It is time for me to face a hard truth:
I am not going to be at this game - my second missed NMCMS fans-allowed game since the start of the 2015 season.

Since I retired from active duty over a year ago, we have been semi-nomadic and in fact Maryland is now secondary not primary residence. I am accompanying my wife at a conference, doing my "adjunct" and "non-resident" things online, but I kept waiting for something to come up to drag me back to Annapolis for this weekend. No such luck.

Looks like I'll miss a third game in eight years later this season too.

Could be worse, I average seeing one in person like every 5 or 6 years.

• The March-On of the Brigade of Midshipmen will begin at 3:11 pm.
• The National Anthem will take place at 3:21:30 pm, followed by a flyover at the conclusion of the national anthem and a parachute jumper (3:24 pm).
• Saturday’s fly-over will feature two Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornets from the “Ragin’ Bulls” of Strike Fighter Squadron THREE SEVEN based out of Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Va. Piloting the lead aircraft will be Lt. Cmdr. Galen “McHOOP” Ober, USNA Class of 2011. The wing aircraft will be piloted by Lt. Matthew Miller. Providing ground control will be Lt. Jack Fox. • Kickoff on Saturday is slated for 3:32 pm.
• There is the possibility that all times could be pushed back by five minutes if the first game on CBS Sports Network is running long. That determination will be made by the network by 2:32 pm.
• Between the first and the second quarters the Navy men’s tennis team will be recognized for winning the 2022 Patriot League Tennis Championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
• The Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps will perform at halftime.
• The pilots from the pregame flyover will be recognized between the third and fourth quarters.
• Following the game, Navy’s alma mater, Navy Blue & Gold, will be played as the team stands at attention in front of the Brigade of Midshipmen. It is one of the best traditions in all of sports.

Jets moving at 300 knots AND a parachute jumper....plus/minus 60 seconds might not be close enough.

Maybe. I'm not convinced. We almost always have trouble with them, even when we win.

Per Evan Barnes at the Commercial Appeal:

No AAC team has a current longer win streak against Navy, and the Tigers have won four of their last five meetings.

Condensed version, poor blocking and quite a few misreads by the QB. https://navy.rivals.com/news/the-delaware-debrief

Fixable, but of course that does not mean it will be fixed.

Believe Navy is still adjusting to rule changes having to do with blocking below the waist.

Navy QB with not have 3 fumbles in this game.

Interesting number is that even though the Tigers allowed too many yards after contact due to missed tackles. Tigers held MS to less than 3 yards per carry and less than 100 yards on 34 rushes.

Concerned that Navy went 5/13 passing with 3 of their 5 completion over 30+ yards.

In past years 13 pass attempts was 1/3 of the year's total.

Wow! That would be really significant....if it were remotely close to true.

When the offense is clicking, really working, 10 or maybe 12 passing attempts per game is "right." And Navy is often at the top of yards per pass attempt stats.

Last year is the lowest attempts total I see after a quick search - 97 attempts. But one can't say that's a year of good offense causing that. 2019 was the last good year, and was only 104 passes (it sometimes seemed like the offense that year was Malcolm drops back, Malcolm doesn't pass, Malcolm scrambles and ends up with 20+ yard run).

Your point on the rules changes is a good one -- definitely changed what the slots and receivers can do outside, and there is much hand-wringing about it in Navy fan circles. But the line was just not good last week. Missed assignments and bad execution.

That could be part of it, but blocking the wrong guy was the biggest part of it. The option blocking schemes are very complex and requires the line to change who they are blocking (or leaving unblocked to option off of) depending on who in the defense is in the count and the play called. They were just missing it much of the time. Even when right, QB missed the reads a lot which leads to the same thing.

We ran a lot more zone blocking than normal as well. We do that sometimes anyway because depending on what the defense is doing that can give an advantage, but I suspect that Coach Ken could not trust the line to execute the more complex plays.

The good thing about the option is that it lends itself to counter what the defense is doing, but if one must change because you cannot execute what already should work against the defensive scheme- it is much less effective.

If this is not a monumental beatdown today Memphis needs to drop football and leave the coach in Maryland.
