I hope not.

From ECU's 247 board:

"Mike Minter has a career 40-55 record despite having better resources than all of his peer schools in the Pioneer Football League and then the Big South.

Nothing in his past coaching suggest he should be a candidate to be a Power 5 DC job. He was a great player. 10 years worth of bad football at a place that has pumped money into their program and got a below average return on investment suggest he's not that good of a Head Football Coach.

They've lost to some really good teams the last few years....but he's ten games below 500 in his own conferences over the years. The amount of people, including his superiors at Campbell, that he's fooled is impressive.
"
I just read yesterday, that he has one of the top recruiting classes in all of FCS. Must be doing some things right. I agree though, not sure if he’s a good fit for Charlotte. But then again, I thought the guy they have now was a good fit there.

EDIT: Confirmed it #2 recruiting class in all of FCS behind Jackson State.

This. Pirate fans are obsessed with intangibles. With that said, the real intangible is that Mike Houston has these boys in a different head space than any coach we've had in a long time.

Exactly. We have our first REAL HC since Holtz. While I loved Ruffin as a person, recruiter and motivator, when Reilly bolted to Oklahoma Ruff's weaknesses were exposed. Houston seems to be the entire package.

I know a dude who used to be on the Campbell coaching staff. Couldn't stand working for the guy.

Hire Scott Frost.

Campbell is my neighbor. I attend a couple of basketball games each year but haven't taken in a football game yet. Maybe this will be the year I get off my butt and drive the four miles to the stadium.

Minter is the 2nd coach at Campbell since they revived football. Campbell has only had scholarships for a few years now. I actually think he's done a good job there. I'm not sure where people get the idea that Campbell should be some sort of power in the FCS yet. It takes time and they started from scratch, so a lot of the funding that has been put into the program as been for things that other programs already had. They had to build a stadium, facilities etc. that other programs would already have. If they have a high ranked recruiting class coming in then that is promising, but I know the type of recruits they have had before and a lot of them are local kids that weren't even recruiting by other schools to any great extent. Campbell is a small private school in a rural community. They aren't high on most recruit's interest list. Minter has done a good job with what he has and if his record doesn't reflect that I'd say he's done about as well as anyone would have. As for his character, I don't know him but talking to those that do all I hear is positive things.

Well they are stepping up to the CAA in 2023 so that should certainly help. But I doubt Campbell has every even approached that level of recruiting in the past.

Nice to see ECU cleaned up their pass defense, but not really.

RE: ***Official ECU vs Campbell Game Thread***
Good overall game. As expected CU would come out with their best stuff. Good adjustments after the first quarter by the DC. ECU has a very good QB...2 greats RBs and 4 great receivers. If our O Line blocks?...We can be very dangerous on the offensive side of the ball against pretty much anyone. Defense is making strides. Really happy with the way we contained this duel threat QB tonight. Next up will be a bit different with Navy but I think Harrell has this defense under control.

Best stat from tonights game....only 1 penalty on the Pirates tonight...and... only 10 in 3 games.... Houston is instilling discipline at ECU.

Solid win! It's not unusual to have a sluggish first half against a good FCS team, which is what happened to us last week against Kennesaw State. Good teams adjust at halftime though, and let their superior depth wear out the FCS opponent. I think ECU can play with anyone in the AAC this year.
