They looked sloppy this year the few games I watched. Definitely not a staff that caught my eye.
This hire is strange and sets off some dangerous curves ahead warnings. Hope I'm way wrong but I have a feeling we will look back on this in 4 years and won't be super thrilled with the results.
If we aimed higher and just didn't get traction with our top targets, so be it...then I'm fine with him. He is worlds better than the other guys Opie was flirting with.
How many watched UC games this year and felt we were really well coached? We were the definition of sloppy.
Even back to the Alabama game. Everyone in the country knew Alabama was going to attempt to ram it down our throats, but that we had the cornerbacks to perhaps survive man coverage. So, we throw in some more beef and try to stop the run first, right? Nope, we come out in a 3 linemen, 5 defensive back defense and we get it rammed down our throats.
Absolutely! Saban wasn't stupid. He attacked where he saw weakness and exploited it. UC's coaching staff should have seen this and adjusted, but didn't. I'm looking forward to the new DC and OC and what they have planned.

The Athletic reported he acknowledged it was less than 'two dozen" and Coach Satterfield was included on that list. What we do know is several candidates either said "not interested" or removed their names from consideration during the process.
The people that were notified they weren't getting the job or who UC wasn't interested did what they do and said "I'm not interested" after it was clear they weren't getting the job. Shocking.

There is nothing to suggest there wasn't widespread interest in this job.
My comments were in the context of the lack of more established names that were mentioned early in the process. Many on here were convinced Matt Campbell would make the jump here. Our three finalists as head coaches were coveted by whom? One was just hired as an OC and not as a head coach. Again, if CSS can carry our trajectory forward then I'll be the first to raise my hand and say I was wrong. That said, I don't think it's reaching at all to look at this hire as "meh."

Ultimately I feel like it's hard to believe that the confirmed mystery candidates were Satterfield and Chip Kelly, maybe more?, but that our next two options were significantly less qualified MAC guys. I think it's easier to reason that Cunningham protects sensitive coaching searches and won't provide leaks. Both Justin and Chad said as much. They both predicted it would be a mystery candidate even though we supposedly had only 2 confirmed in person interviews. If neither top source at UC can even get a sniff of the final candidate before it's done, it stands to reason there could have been more mystery candidates inbetween Satterfield and the MAC.

RE: Coaching Search Thread
I am not sure Fickell takes Nebraska if Wisconsin wasn't on the table. He definitely probably would have wanted Notre Dame as everyone mentioned.
I think him taking the Wisconsin job is a concession that he likely will never get the OSU job, and probably wouldn't go for Michigan ever (what loyal Buckeye would). Penn state is still stained, so Wisconsin and maybe a Purdue are it.
He knew he would struggle in the Big 12 as others mentioned so better to take a job while the stock is high. I figure he will settle in to a Mark Dantonio role for the rest of his career. Going to bowls, not taking many chances.
I was glad to see his thank you to Cincinnati finally showed up online

You have valid concerns here, although I cannot speak to them, since I watch pretty much the Bearcats, and only the Bearcats. Sure I flip around some, but the teams involved better be above UL caliber to warrant a good use of my wasted time
Anyway, if what they say is true about the assistant pool being competitive with most schools, I'm not on board with the "so be it" portion of what you said. If a HC hasn't had crisp execution, he should theoretically be able to hire assistants who know what they're doing better than most.
Unfortunately, seems like, other than Westside Jesus, every coach he has so far brought over is part of his former mediocre coaching staff, as you describe it. I'm hoping all the times you saw UL, you were simply not catching them at their best I know, I know... probably unlikely...

RE: Coaching Search Thread
I remember a few pages/days back there were comments and tweets on how UofL players didn't like CSS, etc. This is exactly why I take things like that with a grain of salt during a coaching change.
Recent comments from Luke Kandra:
Quote:On new Cincinnati head coach Scott Satterfield:
LK: “Coach Satt is a very likable guy, I love playing for him. Just his coaching philosophy, how he coaches the game, how he plans for it, how he does pretty much like everything and we have a really good relationship with each other. He's just a really nice guy, a really good coach and I'm excited.”

Do you suppose Hartline was ever really considered?
I just heard he was passed over for the Moeller job.

I'm not sure if that Moeller comment was a joke that I don't understand but I'd find that extremely hard to believe. I do think UC did (or at least should have) had some interest in him as HC. Ohio St. recently promoted him to OC and he was discussed in an espn.com article a few days ago:
Quote:ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg named Hartline as one of his coordinators to watch (subscription required) this season, and it wasn’t all about how he will perform for the Buckeyes.
Hartline, 36, will generate head-coach interest in the next few cycles but likely will be very selective about leaving Ohio State,” wrote Rittenbert. “He also ultimately might have interest in the NFL, where he played from 2009 to 2015.”

I didn’t get the Moeller stuff either. He made 950k as the WR coach and is now Ohio States OC which I’m sure is over a million.
If he wasn’t considered that’s ridiculous as he has built the best WR room year in and year out at Ohio State. A top knotch recruiter, NFL playing experience, and is well respected up in Columbus similar to Luke Fickell although for different reasons imo.
I’d guess with the position UC was in moving to the Big 12, they didn’t want to take such a risk with a positional coach with no coordinating experience. You never know until they have the opportunity but I agree I wouldn’t doubt if Hartline becomes one of the hottest names in college let alone the NFL in a short time.

Word on a high school football chat board is that Hartline was a candidate for the Moeller job but they chose someone else.

I'm still sorta tied into Moeller and the only place his name came up was on message boards.
I can't see anyone taking a HS job instead of being paid $1 million at OSU.

It's crazy how this has become a thing, but it may have started here (and it all seems to be in jest btw):
