Men's Game 16: Monmouth
Not sure what happened to Monmouth from last year to this year. Last year, the Hawks won 21 games and went to the MAAC Championship Game. This year, if today's game is any indication on how their season goes, they might not win a game in the CAA this year. Drexel didn't shoot all that well, but still managed to dominate from start to finish. Drexel took advantage of their depth today playing all 12 of their regulars and giving their 4 walkons some action in the final minute as well.

Based on a quick perusal of stats and rosters, Monmouth's entire starting lineup from last season graduated, and I guess the cupboard was pretty bare. Hopefully they can get some good recruiting classes under their belts now that the move is done, because they look ROUGH right now.

I'd love to see Ashley Howard coaching at Drexel. Or Bashir Mason in a few years

You wanted Ashley Howard to coach at Drexel man years ago and he was a failure at La Salle. Now we could always argue, was the problem that he wasn't a good enough coach or was La Salle just an impossible place to recruit players to.
But based on what we've seen from Coach Spiker, do you think that Howard or Mason would be significantly better? Spiker built a bare barren program into a championship team in 5 seasons, but they've now slipped into being middle of the road. Would Howard or even Mason be able to recruit at Drexel to make them a top tier team in the CAA every season? I guess it's tough to say.

I think Spiker is a good coach but, he doesn't recruit well. I understand that he has to find gems in the rough but, compared to over mid majors it is very rare for us to bring a 3-star guy in.

I'm going to say that he's an average coach and average recruiter. Drexel's had some very talented players come through since he's been here, and actually have gotten quite a few 3 star players, which is rare for most mid majors. Keeping them here has been a problem though. But Drexel seems to be fine with mediocrity. They have a guy who has won them one championship, is a great salesperson and great face of the program. He runs a clean program, and there haven't been any controversies or disciplinary issues since he's been here. IMO, that's enough for Drexel to keep him around for a while. As long as they don't fall back into consistent 20 loss territory, he's not going anywhere.

RE: Men's Game 16: Monmouth
35 points against our defense? Wow. Hoping that was just a really bad game for Monmouth, though I fear they will struggle to find a win in conference even against the bottom teams (who are also really bad). Since there are teams like this and Elon etc, I hope we dont slip up against them, but also dont form bad habits where we get away with them in games like this, but then are fully exposed against the competent teams of the conference. Hopefully games like this motivate us for the ones that truly do matter against the better teams.
