Game 3 saw the Bearkats win by the largest margin in Sam Houston's D1 history with a final score of 25-2. Pitchers are throwing with excellent velocity and the strength program is showing up for this Bearkats baseball team as they have already outpaced HRs from last year by tying the same homerun count as the 2nd week of March 2022. With 3 out of our 4 best players suspended after missing curfew for the weekend series, the Bearkats season looks bright ahead.

I want to say congrats to GCU for beating Tennessee and to keep up the good work. I remember how exciting it was for us to beat #3 Oklahoma State last year to begin the season. Everyone in the conference needs to go and grab some good non-conference wins.

Beating Tennessee was nice, but Lopes looked like they had an emotional hangover in the days that followed. Pitching got wobbly against Michigan, but the bats didn't wake up in time to recover. It was a bullpen day yesterday against Michigan State, with no typical relief arm going over 2 innings, which is a bad time for the bats to stay in bed altogether. The only run GCU pushed across was thanks to Homer Bush, Jr. getting in position on a walk, pass ball to 2nd, then stealing 3rd.

They aren't all going to be Tennessee games, nor will they all be Michigan State games. I guess that's the beautiful thing about baseball. Just hoping for more of the former than the latter this season.

In all fairness DBU is an incredible baseball school. First real test tonight for my Bearkats as we will be facing Rice at Rekling Park. Bearkats smashed McNeese 18-6. If you have weak pitchers, you definitely don't want to play them against Sam Houston's bats. We currently have 49 runs through 4 games. Our pitching could be better as we gave up 23 runs across that 4-game span, but we feel good as we get more games behind us. Pitchers have excellent velocity, and we should be a dangerous team for any opponent to play against. Fan expectations this season are to make a regional after returning some of the highest production in the country for D1 baseball. This weekend series against Kansas St, Iowa, and LSU should really help gauge just how good this team is.

Wildcats beat Oklahoma 4-3 in 10 innings. Great win. The WAC could be a very strong baseball conference. Wonderful victories all over the place.

Watching that and the basketball game at the same time was killing me. At one point it was 75-75 in OT for basketball and 3-3 in the 10th inning for baseball. BOTH going long... Glad baseball was able to pull it out. Doing it at Globe Life Park was just extra cream on top of the cake!! COGS

Not sure how you could watch both at the same time. It would have blown my blood pressure off the charts. Wish I could have however. We should have won the basketball game as well. Very strange stuff happened.

Well, was at the basketball game, watching the baseball live-stats, and yes, BP was up there for sure...

RE: 2023 WAC baseball
GCU has Ohio State and Gonzaga in town this weekend for a handful of games. Lopes took one from Ohio State last night in a 1-0 that finished in just under 2 hours. JUCO transfer Zach Thronton was absolutely dealing for GCU & their guy had good stuff, too. GCU has the Zags tonight and ends their weekend on Saturday with a Zag/Buckeye double-header. Lopes really starting this season the same way they hope to end it, with knocking out 8 games in the first 8 days.

While I started this year wondering how pitching was going to hold up, the arms seem to be out-pacing the bats at this point. To be fair to the offense, I think the quality of pitching they've seen so far out of SEC and Big10 opponents might be among the best they'll face all year. Quality of baseball played around the WAC so far really has been solid. Hoping all the boys keep it up. 04-cheers04-cheers04-cheers

UTA is 1-6 so far after dropping the first two games against McNeese. The early returns make it look like a long season for the Mavs.

ACU wins 3 out of 4 against SE Missouri State. Baseball is looking good for the Wildcats so far at 7 wins and 2 loses including my big smile, the 4-3 victory over Texas, oops, I meant the sooners from OU. Outsider caught my error. But, having a history of beating Texas in Track&Field and Basketball, and Oklahoma in Baseball, my fat head is not as sharp as before.

Sam Houston finishes up at the Karbach classic nabbing some good wins to start and then being the brunt end of LSU looking for redemption after they had lost to Iowa the day before.

Sam Houston this weekend:
Friday 6-0 W vs Iowa
Saturday 8-3 W vs Kansas St
Sunday 16-4 L vs LSU

RE: 2023 WAC baseball
GCU goes 4-0 on the weekend against Gonzaga and THE Ohio State, with late inning rallies to steal 3 of the 4 games. Down 2-4, Lopes hang 11 runs on the Zags in the bottom of the 8th on Friday night for the win. They circle back Saturday afternoon for another slugfest with Gonzaga. After giving up 5 runs in the top of the inning and going down 11-16, GCU somehow scrape across another 6 runs in the bottom of the 8th (again) and hold in the 9th for the 17-16 win. Lopes wrapped up the Saturday double-header with THE Ohio State and found themselves down 2-5 going into the bottom of the 8th (AGAIN!). No big deal for these Cardiac Lopes, as they put up 3 in the 8th to tie it up, then Arkansas-transfer Zack Gregory walked it off in the 9th with a nuke to right. Absolutely wild weekend at Brazell!

RE: 2023 WAC baseball
Good to see at least two WAC Baseball teams in the Mid-Major top 25 ranking. GCU is 2nd and ACU is 22nd. I think there are more WAC teams that should be in the rankings.

Something needed to happen. 0-7 isn't going to cut it. Especially when your AD played baseball for said university.
