UTEP, NMSU rivalry continues through billboard battle
Got this off the NMSU board.

Quote:EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Miners and Aggies fans are accustomed to the annual battle of I-10 but now The University of Texas at El Paso and New Mexico State University are engaging in a new battle.

The rivalry has taken a step further through a billboard battle in El Paso.

A billboard that NMSU placed just down the street from UTEP's campus in the fall has now garnered a response.

NMSU's billboard near 4012 North Mesa Street reads "You'd look better in Crimson" and shows a young woman with an NMSU shirt on.

UTEP recently responded by placing its own billboard up right on the back of NMSU's advertisement.

UTEP's billboard says "Pick your future, not a color," and depicts what’s intended to be the same woman flashing a Miner pickaxe behind her back.

Justin Bannister, associate vice president of NMSU's Marketing and Communications, applauded UTEP's response by saying "well played."

Bannister said NMSU intentionally placed billboards near UTEP and the University of New Mexico in an effort to recruit students and "get noticed by our rivals in both El Paso and Albuquerque."

NMSU often admits students from El Paso and Albuquerque, Bannister added.

Nice to see some creativity out of our marketing department. Didn't think we had that.

Hope UTEP vs. NMSU becomes as intense as the "100 miles of Hate" we have with Western Ky. Good Rivalries help CUSA.

Oh, we're already there with the intense rivalry. The UTEP/NMSU rivalry in basketball and football began about the same time as the WKU/MTSU rivalry did, 1914.

There have been over 220 mbb games with the Aggies leading the series. The 2023 football game will be the 100th game with UTEP leading that series.

The 2 are only 40 miles apart.
