CAA Baseball Resurgence
The Colonial got some attention in today's D1 Baseball Weekly Chat. The chat is every Monday.
https://d1baseball.com/chats/d1baseball-...eek-eight/
As of today, the CAA's conference RPI is 9th out of 31 D1 conferences...
Will C.: What is an ‘under the radar’ storyline that most college baseball fans are not following, but should be?
Aaron Fitt: Here’s one for you: the CAA is very interesting this year. Elon and Northeastern have both had great first halves and are in strong shape in the RPI, and then UNCW and CofC and William & Mary have also put together very good first halves. Feels like five teams that will all battle it out down the stretch, and the way Elon and Northeastern have set themselves up, you could envision the CAA being a potential two-bid league. I’m planning to get a look at Elon and UNCW this weekend, kind of a neat under-the-radar series.
Hofstra, Delaware and NC A&T can't be overlooked either...

CAA Baseball will get even better next year with the addition of Top 25 Campbell to the league!

Hopefully we get three teams in the next year's tournament.

RE: CAA Baseball Resurgence
Patrick Ebert of D1 Baseball examines the postseason outlooks for mid-major powers enjoying standout seasons with RPIs just outside the usual bubble range.
Mid-Major Power Rankings: RPI
As of games played through Monday, there are 13 mid-major programs ranked among the top 50 overall teams according to RPI. This list is going to be very important between now and Selection Monday and is also important relative to this week’s Mid-Major Notebook.
Mid-Major Postseason Spotlight
As things stand right now eight mid-major teams would seem to be locks for the postseason regardless if they earn their conference’s automatic bids. Those teams are Coastal Carolina, Indiana State, Dallas Baptist, East Carolina, Campbell, UConn, Southern Miss and Northeastern. The Missouri Valley Conference, Conference USA, American, Big South, Big East and Colonial would all be one-bid leagues if those respective teams win their conference tournaments.
Mid-Major Madness: Postseason Conundrum
Colonial – UNC Wilmington, Elon
UNC Wilmington currently holds a slim lead over Northeastern – believed to be a near-lock to make the postseason – and Elon, and College of Charleston isn’t too far behind, either. But for any Colonial team not named Northeastern the path to the Field of 64 will occur at the Colonial Athletic Association Championship in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. over Memorial Day weekend.
The respective RPIs for both UNCW (61) and Elon (64) aren’t in the at-large conversation. UNCW beat Northeastern two games out of three just two weeks ago, won a series at TCU – when the Horned Frogs were ranked – and beat East Carolina twice in a pair of midweek matchups. Elon beat Kentucky to open the season and took down Northeastern to open Colonial play in mid-March with midweek wins over Wake Forest and Campbell padding their resume.

RE: CAA Baseball Resurgence
From D1 Baseball today...
https://d1baseball.com/projections/stock...-analysis/
Postseason Stock Report: Week 14 at-large & national seed analysis
Colonial Athletic Association (2 bids)
SAFELY IN: Northeastern
ON THE BUBBLE (IN): UNC Wilmington (projected automatic qualifier)
ON THE BUBBLE (OUT): Elon, College of Charleston
No change from last week. We continue to project UNCW to win the automatic bid in the CAA, as the Seahawks remain in first place (percentage points ahead of Northeastern) and won the head-to-head series against the Huskies. Should the Seahawks fail to win the conference tournament, they’ll likely fall short of at-large position, as they currently rank No. 62 in the RPI with a 6-10 record against the top 50. Likewise, Elon (No. 64) and CofC (No. 68) are unlikely to get into at-large position, which would require winning the regular-season title and getting into the top 50 or so in the RPI.
That leaves Northeastern as the most legitimate at-large contender in the CAA, thanks to a No. 33 RPI, a 7-0 mark against the top 50, and a 39-11 overall record. Northeastern is an at-large lock, but if the Huskies win the CAA tournament, this is likely to wind up as a one-bid league. If any other team wins the conference tourney, Northeastern would get in as an at-large team, making this a two-bid league.
