Welcome, indeed! I am curious if this results in a new TV deal for the BIG (ESPN/ABC, Apple, Amazon) for a Friday primetime game and/or a BIG After Dark on Saturday. Are Stanford and Cal next? The BIG may want the content if they plan another time slot or two.

RE: What is the BIG Ten going to do?
I have always said that the end game is 24. I do think Cal and Stanford will still get in to completely form a Pacific division. The next battle will be for the best ACC schools when it finally falls apart. I think we go all in to get ND, UVa, UNC and Duke (needed to get UNC and UVa to jump). If we loose out to the SEC for those schools, than we grab three of the 4C schools and possibly Kansas as a fallback move.

I'm not sure about next, but do think they'll be in B1G eventually. I didn't think August 15 date would hold any actual significance in realignment, but it might now and that's why I'm not sure about next. We'll see, right?

I think you’re on the right track, though Florida is tempting (though difficult). I suppose I could see 28 with the four you mention and Miami and one other (Georgia Tech? Florida State?) and then circling back for a Kansas and maybe Arizona. That’s a heavy lift though, so 24 is more likely.

Does August 15th matter when there are only 4 teams left in the PAC??

I could see it being sooner simply to get schedules in place. I read a rumor (nothing more) that the BIG presidents want Cal and Stanford but their media partners are pushing back…

What is the BIG Ten going to do?
I was thinking August 15 date to notify conference of exit for ACC schools. If FSU creates an avalanche of movement in my opinion that helps Stanford and Cal's cause for quicker add.

Got you. My bad, I misunderstood. Boy would the demise of the ACC so close to that of the PAC be unbelievable.

I figure your guys are playing the angles on options. Let's say that ESPN allows FSU to break out of the GOR, that kills the GOR for everyone. Then you can look to snag 4 there and if you do Stanford and Cal make a 6 team west division.

If ESPN merges the ACC with the SEC at unequal pay and eliminates one full set of overhead in the process they can bump up 4 ACC schools to SEC pro rata, maybe 4 to 6 more at some lesser mid level pay (think 50-55) million, and keep the bottom of the ACC at their current contracted amounts. This move consolidates the GORs, meets the demands of the 7 and more importantly holds onto all ESPN rights which they currently have. The monetize the schools paid more from the ACC by matching them against brand SEC schools for football and the enhance the ACC hoops first schools with games against Tennessee, Kentucky, L.S.U., Auburn, Florida and Alabama plus Texas and Oklahoma.

In that world the Big 10 makes a run at ND uses Stanford as a lure. If N.D. doesn't work you make a play for Kansas and Stanford, or Colorado and Stanford to build a bit of a bridge to the West.

Stanford stays in play either way and Cal needs a move to 24 to make it in.

All that makes sense JR. It does beg a question related to timing. If “the ACC question” is answered by August 15th, then the logic here is perfect. Wait it out and make the best deals you can. Personally, I think the BIG would love a few schools from the ACC but I’m not arrogant enough to tell you that is a guarantee. If the BIG is shutout of the ACC then finalize at 20.

If, however, the fate of the ACC goes much longer then I don’t think the BIG would or should wait on finalizing the western division. Take Stanford and Cal and then wait. If ND asks to join then it’s a great problem to have to solve and maybe then you double back to Colorado, Kansas or even Arizona if need be.
