Exclamation Football Tonight: Sam vs nmsu
For the very few that are interested, looks like we've got a real RUMBLE ROYALE brewing tonight over in CUSA between our two former conference mates.

So who you got in tonight's battle for last place?

I'll take n-m-s-who with the 3.5 points 04-cheers

Sam had better coaching, and better players than us at the FCS level. This is what we have to look forward to if we jump to FBS. FCS transition has been awful. We might not win a game for 3 years in FBS. I know FBS is our goal, but I for one can’t handle another transition for awhile!

Oscar, that brings up a very good perspective. The other point that I heard from UTSA and Georgia State fans/posters is let's get the transition done with all in a row and get the knocks done now. Others say let's build the fan base at each level before moving up.

If UTA brings back football, I'd like to establish a winning tradition first. I know several in the athletic department are FBS or bust.

Yeah but those schools didn’t have the 4 year transition to D1.

True, but they had the two-year mark. I hear they built it in their plan. Six years is rough for sure.

Scammy wasn't prepared for the move to FBS when they got their surprise invite, and they still aren't. They are so far behind the 8-ball that it's probably a 10-15 year project for them to right the ship. Yes, they had a decent football team and built an identifiable brand, but they lack the BIG 3 (funding, facilities and support), which are must-haves to even think about being successful at the next level. Tarleton has been prepping for FBS for almost a decade now. We have, methodically, been planning our work, and working our plan. We check all 3 boxes when it comes to the BIG 3, and we are built on a solid foundation. NIL and the newly increased buy-in cost for FBS all play to our favor. All that aside, we have the talent to be a Top-10 FCS team this year, we just need a few tweeks in personnel and better gameplanning. Gurantee you when we do go FBS it will not be Whitten leading us there. We will go make a splash-hire for a HC with proven success at the FBS level. Bottom line is TARLETON will do FBS right, or we won't do it all. 04-cheers

From a budget standpoint, I'm sure the longer transition appears to make sense, most especially if the admin wasn't expecting much community support (which always seems to be the assumption at UTA). UTSA did it just right, moving slowly and letting two years pass before they even began scrimmages. Now, with the transfer portal in play, the additional costs of NIL, and the penalty of not being in an FBS conference, one wonders what conceivable path remains open at all.

I wish we would at least add soccer while we're pondering these issues. This at least might scare some of the supporter$ out of hiding and in the meantime, give students something of interest in the Fall.

Wow. Getting blown out by the lowly cellar dwellers of nmsu is the absolute bottom of the barrel for Ol' Scammy. I almost feel bad for those poor CubKitty rascals. Hopefully the Louisiana schools that now own the SLC will allow them to come crawling back.

Don't look now, but Lamar is in first place at 2-0.
