Fisher out at A&M
Record buyout... $75M

Not $7.5M... $75M

Texas A&M fires Jimbo Fisher: Sixth-year coach owed more than $75 million in record college football buyout

Quote:Texas A&M has fired coach Jimbo Fisher, ending his six-season tenure leading the Aggies, the university announced. University regents reached a decision during an executive session on Thursday ahead of Texas A&M's Week 11 win over Mississippi State, according to TexAgs.

"After very careful analysis of all the components related to Texas A&M football, I recommended to President [Mark] Welsh and then Chancellor [John] Sharp that a change in the leadership of the program was necessary in order for Aggie football to reach our full potential and they accepted my decision," said athletic director Ross Bjork in a statement. "We appreciate Coach Fisher's time here at Texas A&M and we wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Aggies associate head coach Elijah Robinson will serve as the team's interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Fisher is owed north of $75 million in a buyout stemming from a blockbuster, fully guaranteed $95 million contract extension signed in 2021. That deal followed an initial 10-year, $75 million agreement that brought Fisher to Texas A&M from Florida State.

Quote:$75 million just the tip of the iceberg
Among the reasons Texas A&M has been so hesitant to fire Fisher is that buyout, which is expected to exceed $75 million for the coach alone. But that's just the start of the Aggies needing to open their pockets. Members of Fisher's staff have their own buyouts. Entrenched coaches at top programs who Texas A&M will likely pursue may have their own buyouts that will need to be financed. There's also the potential for significant changes up and down the support staff. And then there's the entire set of new contracts that must be signed for the new coach and their staff.

In the end, the $75 million is just the starting point for Texas A&M as it seeks to untangle itself from Fisher's leadership.

So absurd. That's beyond NFL levels.

Yep.

I guess it's hard when you only get $50M in a year from your conference. Heck, this Fisher and other coaches buyout just might cost the Aggies a couple of years of $EC bucks.

They’ll bring in whoever, pay them a fortune and continue to finish 5th in SEC west. Overinflated sense of their own program. But they have oil $ and SEC $ to keep the circus going

I agree with you. However, I've been saying that since the day Magic Johnson signed a 24-year, $25 M contract.
But yeah, it's gotta end somewhere.

Too many people, commercial and criminal organizations prop it up...for it to come crashing down lol. (gambling is legal and even gets advertised on teevee.) It's so easy even a child can do it.

Not to mention, a cool million doesn't go as far as it did a couple years ago.

And lastly, athletes value their health more than they used to. They aren't going to risk permanent injury for small potatoes. Then there's the viewership of we the couch potatoes that includes the plethora of brainwashing commercial ads (especially the pharmaceutical ones) They are a huge income for the networks.

So no, I don't think it will crash. It will just get more intense and manipulative as the general population dummies down. A happy member of the general population is a productive asset. lol....

You could be right, Snow.

In related news, the proverbial "App that Tracks Airline Flights" into the Starkville Regional Airport and Tire Emporium allegedly noted the arrival of charter flights yesterday from Lynchburg, VA (Liberty U) and Panama City Beach, current home of both Dan Mullen and Urban Meyer.

An even better unconfirmed report has it that A&M is coming for Lane Kiffen from Ole Miss. What an early Christmas present that would be!
