Not quite a done deal but would really suck for The District, granted it'd just be a move across the Potomac.

I know the current arena site is constrained, but being downtown and fitting into the Mall footprint was the goal. If a new location was needed I figured the STAR complex would be better.

More importantly why does the rest of the Commonwealth need to finance NOVA's aspirations of being an actual city?

Maybe the Washington Football Team could end up in DC again should they get some kind of deal worked out. They'll probably end up in Northern Virginia with the Caps and the Wizards however.

I'm guessing they'll still be branded Washington if they're just moving across the river. Similar to how the New York Jets are branded New York but play in New Jersey.

(I thought the Devils were like that too, but the opposite (play in New York but branded New Jersey) but that's apparently not the case)

Especially the Capitals which is a bigger brand & recent Cup champ.

The Devils have always played in New Jersey. The Brooklyn Nets played in New Jersey before moving, but they were called the New York Nets at one point in their history.

The Brooklyn Nets started as the New Jersey Americans of the ABA. After one season they moved to Long Island and became the New York Nets. The ABA and NBA merged in 1976 and the Nets moved back to New Jersey in 1977 and rebranded to the New Jersey Nets. They moved to Brooklyn and took their current identity in 2012.
