in addition I would find it hard to believe that ESPN was not aware of what it would take to extend that and that they would allow themselves to accept a contract extension that they knew would not be valid......I find it pretty hard to believe that they would have not alerted every member of the conference to let them know they were offered an extension by the commissioner and asking of they were aware of that and have approved it

people (especially on the realignment forum) seem to be getting the GOR, the conference bylaws, and the contract with ESPN all jumbled up and confused, but I would think that even with a GOR in place that signs over the media rights to the conference that each conference member is still a signatory on the ESPN media deal as well.....and again that ESPN would be aware that an extension to the option needed approval

but I suppose dumber things have happened

You have no proof that the Conference did not approve said action after the fact. The Executive Committee, created when Swofford was being pushed out, was put into place in order to help facilitate quick action and prevent unilateral actions by the Commissioner and or the Committee Chairs.

Since most don't really understand how the ACC actually operates, it operates via committees - something that most outside our region seem not to understand.

Any illicit action taken by the Commissioner can be blessed at a later date by a 3/4th vote, if not a 2/3 vote. Any action taken unilaterally by the Commissioner on a matter where he has not been given authority is legally invalid. That means ESPN holding the empty bag, not the league members. That means the Commissioner can agree to any damn thing that ESPN tosses out and the members can always vote the Commissioner down.

Because FSU has limited prior experience with entities that run by committee, I don't doubt that they are ill-prepared to work the committee system like a WF or GT, or UVa might successfully do. FSU doesn't show the cultural or intellectual acumen necessary to gain friends and influence others in the ACC. They will have the same deficits in the SEC and Big 10. Perhaps the B12 is the only place where they can get along with others.

I think ACC should just let FSU go and replace it with USF which has bigger potential than FSU. Now ACC is big enough. As long as everybody else stay together, losing FSU is no big deal.
