RE: Roster for 2024
He never even dressed for a game while other redshirts did, so when word got out a Big10 team offered I was shocked. Since he's had to put out a reminder that he's still in the portal tells me the offers aren't what he expected. Oh well, the grass isn't always greener, and the longer you're on the market starts working against you.

This is the case even more often than they were before.
The portal taketh and the portal giveth.
It gives us the option to reload far easier than without it.
It also ensures that the players we get are ones that actually want to be here.

We will continue to lose talent. But as long as we keep winning, there are thousands of talented guys out there that can play immediately for us (and perhaps even better than the guy before them).

I think this really hurts incoming Freshmen more than anyone. Their chances of playing immediately is less. Schools will still invest in them, but I think it will not be anywhere near as much as trying to get players in the portal.

I don't really agree with this. It just changes the approach, heavily incentivizing freshmen to enroll at a lower level where they'll get playing time and showcase their abilities. Every year is a 1 year "prove it" deal, so bet on yourself, perform, and you'll be a hot commodity in the portal for sophomore year.

Quite sure Elijah Sarratt doesn't think he was hurt by recent eligibility developments. If you're good enough, you'll be just fine.

Looking back with clarity, we really didn't lose anyone worth a damn except maybe Carpenter and Kamara. Everyone else should have moved on by now or were 'overrated' Fisher had one good year, but Taurus is better, let's be honest.

I disagree with that synopsis, but I also don’t care to devote any more time thinking about dudes who left.

Are you sure that's "clarity" you're looking back with, or a 5th of bourbon?

The issue isn't just the talent or experience of the players lost, it's the symbiosis of units that have played together, especially on OL.

But, I think Coach Chesney seems to have a knack for forging team culture so hopefully the losses aren't felt.

I swear I saw a bearded guy with longer hair wearing a #40 jersey in Spring Game pregame. Rutherford has a unique look. I am not shocked about Sean Johns. Even though he was listed on the roster last year, I saw him walking the tailgate lot in civilian clothes not more than an hour and a half before GameDay against App.

Spring game roster has two #40s, Logam Ketchum (LS) and Jackson Snyder (LB).

Just trying to rattle the chicken littles who think we lost everything to IU. My expectations remain the same, undefeated regular season, win the Sun Belt, go to the playoffs. Also in a normal (non Covid) situation most of those guys would be done anyways. It is not like we lost anything year over year that we haven't already recovered from for the last decade +.

With the recent transfers, who wants to take a stab at our 2-deep? I'm honestly not sure who will fill Ponds' position (likely a transfer).
