I guess 25 years were not enough, I'm not going to make it.
Hello all,
I am disappointed to tell you that I have had to cancel my trip to Memphis. Last night my Mother-In-Law became ill and was airlifted to Vanderbilt this morning for an ICU admission. So, I will be going to Nashville tomorrow and not Memphis. We live in Western NC and there are no hospital beds to be found at the moment. Vandy is a 90-minute flight for us and she was lucky to get the room. So, again I’m sorry I will not be joining you for the games. However, I would like to take a moment to reflect on my previous post and request for information if I could.
First off, the number of responses were amazing. I imagined I would get 10 or 15 responses. Instead, I got 6 pages. There was some really good advice given and I appreciate it. The troublesome part was all the negativity that came with it. Toward the city, the university, and each other. I’m not here to preach, but it does seem like a lot of posts just end up in a fight. I guess I just don’t understand how restaurant information turns into this.
I would like to give you my take on Memphis if I could. I am an outsider. I came to Memphis in the early 90’s because my now ex-wife was accepted into Optometry School at SCO. I worked as a paramedic in your city and for the Navy for almost 5 years. I have seen the worst of people in your city and also a lot of good. I won’t lie. I hated it when I got there. But, like anything else, you can grow a fondness for things you once disliked. I transferred 2 years of university work from WCU to (then) MSU. I fell in love with the university, Tiger basketball, and the food. I made lifelong friends from Memphis, Mississippi, and Arkansas. I would not trade those years for anything. I worked some bad scenes in Memphis, but I never felt scared. No more than when I worked in Atlanta. I have no doubt crime has risen there like it has nationwide. But there has to be some good things left. I love your city. I hope to catch you guys soon (especially you Ike). Take care and have safe and happy New Year.

Negativity is edgy. Negativity sells.
Plenty of people here live good lives. Many people outside the metro area have a high opinion of the place. But some people here were pissed off the night they lost their virginity.

Let's ignore the reality that crime is a problem everywhere and has been increasing nationwide. This board is about discussing the Tigers. Why not give it a rest?
Twin Cities Carjacking Crisis: A Closer Look At The Data
Quote:"I bet 14 or 16 years old, came up, had guns, like right into, you know, my stomach, and all I could look at was the gun," Craig Boettcher said.
He was one of the 755 victims attacked in the Twin Cities last year. We know stories like his well.
"They said 'Give us your keys or we'll kill you,'" Boettcher said.

I never do this but you have my personal invitation - if you can swing a trip I will make it a personal mission to show you the real Memphis.
And I promise it will be fun.

Get the hell off your damn high horse. You don't get to decide who posts here or who doesn't. You don't get to decide what they post. You have a choice, you can read it or skip on past it. It's not dissimilar to watching TV. See something you don't like? Then don't watch it, use that remote to scroll right on past.
I see you go off the rails all the time BTW, you are compelled to insert your 2 cents worth in every.single.thread. And you know what? You have the ability and the right to do that. I'll defend that until the end but that doesn't mean that half your stuff isn't drivel and not worth either reading in the 1st place or reacting to after the fact.
The point is that your post don't always stay on the athletic track...

So you're going to take him on a tour of Orange Mound, Frayser, Parkway Village and South Memphis? Or will you confine the tour to Germantown, Bartlett and the bedroom communities of Atoka, Oakland, Olive Branch and the like? Be sure to take him on a tour of the gated communities on the bluff too. I suggest a walking tour of downtown after dark, those can be really exciting.
It's obvious that few of you who are defending the shitehole that Memphis has become haven't had personal experiences with violent crime there.

So sorry to hear about your mother in law. Vanderbilt is a good place to be for her to receive the best medical care. Praying for her recovery and for safe travels for you and your family. Hope y’all get the chance to get back to Memphis in the near future. Happy New Year to you too!

Memphis hood rats will steal anything that isn’t nailed down. I’ve got a couple of friends in Nashville and 1 in the FL panhandle (former Memphians) that I text local news stories just like this one to for their entertainment. This one makes the cut for sure!
