Ok, thanks. So that was wrong on the radio broadcast.

Kind of odd that the number 2 seed plays the late game after the number 3 seed plays the early evening game. Less rest for the number 2 seed than the 3 seed for the semifinals. I have always seen where the 2 seed plays the early evening game.

I'm with you- don't get the logic behind it.

Also, you can scout your opponent live if they play after you. If JMU ends up #2, they will get to see some of the #3 game before them, but probably not all so they can go through their normal pregame prep in the locker room.

Might be a factor if JMU plays Troy in the semis. They haven’t done a full concentrated scouting report on them since the 2 teams didn’t play in the regular season. That makes for an interesting game where tendencies aren’t evident from game experience either. Depending on the bracket it is possible JMU plays ODU 4 times and Troy zero this year. Very strange.

If Vegas is correct picking the winners of this evenings games, then JMU will be locked into the #2 cede for the tournament

Feels like the Tourney is going to come down to App, JMU and Troy.

Troy may be better than first glance at record, 5 of their losses were within 3 points, including a 2OT loss to Oregon St by 1. Troy beat App.

Would not be upset if Troy or App stumble in the quarters.

If one team plays a few hours before the other, does it really make a huge difference in terms of rest?
IMO both teams are going to be similarly tired if they played the day before.
If one team played in the morning and the other team played at night, I could see that being an issue.
But if the difference is 2 to 3 hours, does that really give the early team a significant advantage over the other?

Semis and finals are in the evening, so everyone has at least 21.5 hours between games.

I have seen tournaments where the semis were at night and the finals were at noon the next day, then rest can play a role.

RE: SBC Basketball Tourney travel to Pensacola FL
So the #2/#3 seed still hasn’t been decided. If JMU wins Friday they lock up #2 and will play a team with a losing record in the quarterfinals.
If JMU loses Friday and Troy wins, then JMU will be the #3 seed and will play a team that has a winning record in the quarterfinals.

Would be nice to have a relative easier win in the quarterfinals before playing semis and finals that are sure to be very competitive and down to the wire.

What is certain is that JMU will play in the evening every night as long as they keep advancing.

Surprised by the lack of activity about the tournament. Are there really only going to be a handful of JMU fans in Pensacola?

I broke down and bought tickets for Saturday & Sunday. What I hope are good seats very close to the court.

I don't think you will need to worry about seats too much. Last year other than our group of 5 and folks with JMU there were about 20 other people. My guess for this year is we have a few hundred but who knows. Our group getting down Thursday for most part.

I think the reality is it's more accessible and affordable to watch it at home on TV than to take on the logistics of the trip. While I share (what I sense is your) disappointment, I'm also part of the crowd not travelling to FL this weekend so I can't throw stones.

Yea same here. I too will be rootin' from the couch with the kids. Is what it is. Pensacola isn't exactly an afternoon trip to the Richmond Coliseum like it used to be.

I’d recommend going at some pint. Flights aren’t cheap but if you with a bigger group you can get ridiculously good deals on Airbnb’s. Everything else is pretty cheap there as well.

Honestly, don't think I will ever make the trip unless they move the tournament somewhere else. Not a beach person, so Florida has no appeal. Now if they held it in Atlanta, I would be more motivated to make it.

While you can stay at the beach, Pensacola itself is not on the ocean. Having been to both places I'd much rather be in Pensacola than Atlanta. Downtown Pensacola is actually pretty nice and has some good restaurants and bars. The weather this time of year there is very nice as well with temps in high 60's to mid 70's.

I'd love to make a trip out of it. Kids just aren't quite old enough to make it worth while to match up with basketball tourney.

Can we do what the NBA did during covid and have virtual picture at games of fans from home? 03-lmfao

I had to go to Ft Walton beach/Destin last year for a conference. That area is far from being readily accessible. Never been to Pensacola and would assume their airport is a little better than Destin.

The other issue for me is train service, of which there is none to Pensacola currently. I am prioritizing away games/tournaments that can be reached by train and then public transit locally. Hate driving, especially road trips.
