Royal Rivalry
Should it just be a trophy awarded to the winner of the annual football game like the Apple Cup, etc. ?

It seems to get watered down including all the sports, and when is the trophy even given to the winning University? To me it just feels like it's a hidden rivalry competition.

Did they ever come up with a final trophy design?

To answer my own question, from just 3 days ago:

Quote:TOWNEBANK ROYAL RIVALRY CHALLENGE

-Points are awarded for head-to-head competition or for the best finish in mutual conference championship events in sports where head-to-head competition does not occur. Half points are granted in case of a tie. Both regular season and postseason matches are included in head-to-head calculations.
-Additional points for academic achievements and competitions will also be part of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge. At the end of each school year, the school that earns the most points will hoist the Royal Rivalry Trophy, which is currently being designed by students in both schools' art departments.
-JMU leads ODU in the 2023-24 edition of the challenge, 6.5-2.5.

Hopefully we never see the day where this thing resides at ODU.

The trophy was on display at the AUBC before the WBB game vs ODU last Saturday.

Good, because wikipedia seem to grab that bit from the JMU sports website, then the JMU sports notes grabbed from the wikipedia comment just 3 days ago going in to the game. You'd think 2 years later it would be done being designed and already manufactured, or else the students involved in the process shouldn't have graduated. 03-drunk

May the Royal Rivalry trophy case in Norfolk always look like the National Championship trophy case in Blacksburg 04-cheers

That would be sweet to hold up after we beat them in football every year. 02-13-banana

Looks like the crown is gold and not silver, if so, smart move as it we’ll end up owning it every year.

Seems like there is some off-topic smack talk, that ignores the obvious facts.

ODU's hometown paper, trying to keep it real.

Royal Rivalry is a Rout
