The Big Ten can enter into a contract with the Rose Bowl to place their conference champ (provided that they are a top 4 champ) in the quarterfinals.

I don't think the Rose Bowl (or any other bowl) can carry that weight. ...

Yes. This is a potential part of the system I've been noting for quite a while now, and while it can carry some of the weight, it can't carry as much weight in terms of differentiating the payouts of the conferences as the Contract Bowl payments do now, even as the Big Ten and SEC would be wanting to have more differentiation than is in place at present.

To be tapping into revenues above and beyond just re-arranging the media revenues of the CFP, you'd want to make having one of the top four highest value conference affiliation agreements as being the requirement for being a quarterfinal host bowl. That's the most effective means I can see right now of tapping into the bowl's sponsorship and other revenue streams and directing some of them into the pockets of the conferences.

I think the CFP era is over. I think the SEC and BIG are working on a leaner, faster and flexible iteration, that’ll start in 2026.

Well I was right about that.

Quote:The new contract was supposed to be 6 years, so I took the average of the units plus 3% for the last 6 years, with everyone in their 2024-25 homes. Your units follow you if you change conferences, because the SEC and Big Ten are making the rules.

We don't have any details on how the formula works except that the Big Ten and SEC get around 60%, Big 12 and ACC get around 30% and the G5 around 10%.

Quote:The results for the main revenue distribution (setting aside the performance money, $116M, and whatever else gets carved out like FCS money or whatever)
ACC 12%
B1G 26%
SEC 28%
XII 14%
G5 19%

I was wrong about the G5 keeping their 20%.

This becomes a matter of which is more profitable:

29% of a playoff that theoretically includes all of FBS

OR

50% of a playoff that involves just the Big 10 and SEC (which would arguably be a 6 or 7 team conference playoff, culminating in a CCG at their historic NYD bowl, and then a champ vs champ meeting in early January)
