Making lemonade out of lemons
In case you missed some of my last few post, the 2023 ratings for Stan, Cal and SMU were not very good, there is a better chance of them dragging down the average ACC ratings than there is bringing them up. So what's done is done, this is my (futile) attempt to fix some of these issues as I once again play fantasy supreme chancellor of the ACC:
1) Bring aboard WOSU - the ACC is due another pro-rata and maybe ESPN can see the merits of an extra pro-rata in exchange for a favorable vote from the Pac2 bloc that is dragging their feet in the new playoff structure. Besides this, as proven they do bring with them good rivalry games with Oregon and Washington and supply much needed late night ACC content.
2) Form a western scheduling bloc - That would be OSU, WSU, Stan, Cal, SMU, ND. That's 5 football games each which meets and does not exceed ND's limits. Plus ND will obviously bring up the ratings of each of these teams they play.
3) Western bloc scheduling alliance - The ACC14 will count these games as OOC games. There are 10/14 ACC members without a regular OOC rival and most of them have trouble getting good OOC opponents to play h&h anyway. Doing it this way would give the western bloc at least 7 annual games with plenty of wiggle room to schedule other OOC games.
4) ACCCG not include the western bloc - Sorry, but there is no good way to include them. They should work toward getting an at-large playoff bid.
The biggest objection would be giving up games vs ND. Pitt would be the biggest loser in all of this because they have a true history with them. Nobody else really has much of a history. This new arrangement does give the ACC easier, winnable OOC games in which would be great for getting an at-large playoff spot. New ACCN markets, back to the 3-5-5 scheduling model that seemed to work well.
