Deal with BS NCAA investigations. BS? Yes. Ask IARP
…
We played Wiseman when he wasn’t eligible after we were told not to and are lucky the IARP decided it was going to thumb its nose at the NCAA. The other stuff was minor but it happened too.
Get your facts straight.
Weisman hired Lesley Ballin to be his attorney. They filed an injunction in court
against the NCAA, AND the University of Memphis seeking a temporary retraining order to stop the university from not letting him play.
If the University of Memphis had, indeed, held him out, they would have been liable for a contempt of court charge and possible penalties. Weisman and Ballin tied the U of M's hands in the matter.
The U of M then held him out of games
AFTER Weisman and Ballin dropped their injunction in court and only after the legal stuff was dismissed.
So, get the facts straight....U of M did not thumb their noses at the NCAA and say "'F u, we playing him anyway", they were reacting to a legal issue brought against them by Weisman and Ballin. Now, it was not the smartest thing to do in the long run, but at the time, they had no alternative path to follow that had no repercussions to consider.
