G5/lower level adds
If we say the remaining P4/ACC schools are off limits, who would the SEC/Big 10 go for at this point?
USF is an easy pick, but who else? For the SEC Tulane doesn't really add much, SMU in the ACC is officially off limits. Perhaps North Texas? They are at least R1. I don't think Rice is big enough. UTSA and Charlotte aren't quite right either. FAU if they continue basketball success? ECU has fallen back. I could see maybe JMU/App State just for the markets. Maybe Coastal with baseball.
Any other thoughts?

On behalf of USF, we accept.

Interesting thought experiment. I'll presume 20 for each conference. First, the "jewel" - South Florida. I think they choose the SEC if given the option. That's where the similarities end. The B1G adds Buffalo and Connecticut while the SEC adds East Carolina, Memphis, and Tulane.

I think there is logic to your picks, however, UConn isn't AAU so I'll say they do get Rice instead in order to claim something in Texas.

I considered Rice over Connecticut but, if forced, I think the B1G looks past AAU status for brand value.

RE: G5/lower level adds
...Y'all know that our (well, the Birmingham Civic Center Authority or whatever) new stadium is directly across the street from SECHQ (heck, I usually sit on one of the window sills of the joint (designed for convenient sitting, strangely enough) at some point during Blazer pre-games...) ...would make it convenient for any of y'all visiting us to mosey across the street and pick up / drop off any administrative paperwork needed...
...but I place our chances of THAT happening about the same as, well... let's say... this year's presidential election going off without a hitch (not to get political, but y'all KNOW it's gonna be a nightmare no matter what... ) I WOULD think that when the ACC implodes, if it survives, we would be a fair-to-middlin' candidate for that...
...for a more realistic list, I would note USF at the top, and why not Memphis (although my reaction would be ) - USF would be a good 'second' FL team (sorry, I think FSU/UM are most likely B1G bound), and Memphis is dead center of the 'expanded' SEC, and have a decent fanbase - SEC membership would easily double that... ...the only 'down side' to these two is it doesn't get you into new states, perhaps 'markets' a bit better (although Memphis is generally surrounded on all sides by SEC areas).

I doubt that both Florida Schools, whose rights are held by ESPN, would wind up in a FOX held conference, especially since ESPN could hold them to staying around until 2036 if they wished to do so.
Memphis will never be in the SEC. We have two Tennessee schools already and it's only a moderately sized state. The Big 12 is more of a realistic suitor for Memphis. If the SEC had any sense of geographical significance they would consider USF. They have 55,000 campus students, are AAU, have a ranked basketball program, and only need cash to be as viable as FSU or UF.
The truth is for the SEC USF would be the only G5 consideration and that likely wouldn't get out of committee debate.

...yeah I guess three TN programs would be a bit much, although they would be pretty 'stretched' (I think it's like 400 or so miles from Memphis to Knoxville).
If/when FSU shakes loose, most likely will be to the B1G, as it appears there's been a few bridges burned between FSU and ESPN/SEC... BUT, I could see the SEC making an effort to keep the B1G outta their territory, so it will be interesting if FSU becomes 'unfettered'...
I DO think Clemson is a 'sure thing' for the SEC, as it's "Auburn by a Lake" or something like that (although as an Aubie, not sure if that's a compliment or a jibe... ) ...in fact, the scuttlebutt is that NC and most likely NCST, along with Clemson and... SOMEbody else... would be the picks for the SEC... I see Miami in the B1G, and whenever ND figures out it's gonna be rough as an indy, even for them, they will finally jump into the B1G as well... UVA would be the fourth (with assumed FSU) for the BiG.
USF has moved close to the Miami level in terms of pecking order (if not realistically overtaken them (hope Pete the Chop isn't reading this...) in terms of 'overall value/potential'), but yeah realistically I see Yormark wanting to get a 'travel partner' for the Fighting Malzahns... and USF/UCF is a natural rivalry anyway.

Don't listen to the noise. Most of it is misdirection. BTW: When John Heisman left Auburn he went to Clemson. He took Auburn's old jerseys with him. A woman a Clemson put bleach in the wash water and the Navy Blue turned nearly Purple. The orange fade a tad but stayed Orange. This is how Clemson wound up with their colors and the story is true.

No, but the original War Eagle belonged to a Georgia alum and the bird broke free and flew around the field while Georgia was leading. The birds name was War Eagle as legend had it that it was a very young adult bird which had been wounded in the exchange of artillery at Gettysburg. The solider who was wounded found the bird nursed it back to health as he was nursed back to health and he kept it. So the Dawg fans were the ones initially point to where the bird was in the sky and calling War Eagle down. While that happened Auburn scored twice and beat them. The next year Auburn fell behind again only this time to mock the situation of the year before the Auburn faithful pointed to the sky and started calling War Eagle, even though the bird was not there. Auburn rallied again and beat Georgia and the tradition was born. They gave us War Eagle and Pat Dye, we gave the Glory, glory, and Vince Dooley and Erskine Russel. We both shared Dean Foy as dean of men at the respective universities.
Georgia has always been more like a rival first cousin and family than Alabama.

UNT, as much as I like them, doesn't really add that much to the SEC, IMO. I don't honestly don't know about FAU. Would they bring more than Vandy?? JMU/ App State/Coastal are all too small, IMO. They would be like adding Troy to the SEC. Good, competitive team, but doesn't bring a big enough brand to the SEC. Not happening ( for the record, I am a Troy fan in addition to being an UGA Dawg). I used to be high on ECU because to me, ECU was like "the Miami" of North Carolina, i.e. they serviced an area not controlled by UNC or NC State, but the Pirates have definitely fallen on hard times, IMO.

100% ...at least they didn't steal 'Glory, Glory' from us like our UGA buddies did...
Georgia has always been more like a rival first cousin and family than Alabama.
...yeah its amazing how many 'crossovers' AU and UGA have, and it's not only the "Deep South's Oldest Rivalry", but one of the all-time best, ANYWHERE... ...and yeah I know there are fans 'native' to the Lee County area, even in Columbus, who would take a win over UGA before a win over Bama... I'm in Birmingham, so yeah, love beating UGA, but beating Bama is MUCH more of a big deal for me...
The point is to beat them both!

In UGA rivalries, I have Auburn as only slightly below the despised Gators. It's my hope that both UGA & Auburn make it into the AAU one day. Not too concerned if 'Bama makes it or not, to be honest. I do believe that UAB should be in the AAU though. Still like beating Auburn in football, but will pull hard for Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

...for a more realistic list, I would note USF at the top, and why not Memphis (although my reaction would be ) - USF would be a good 'second' FL team (sorry, I think FSU/UM are most likely B1G bound), and Memphis is dead center of the 'expanded' SEC, and have a decent fanbase - SEC membership would easily double that... ...the only 'down side' to these two is it doesn't get you into new states, perhaps 'markets' a bit better (although Memphis is generally surrounded on all sides by SEC areas).
JR, doesn't Ole Miss give the SEC the Memphis market?? I always thought that's how Ole Miss got into the SEC to begin with.

My parents moved there. I would say in terms of popularity, Ole Miss tops the charts followed by Tenners, Alabama and then Arkansas.
