His style would fit in Louisville, I think. Offense from defense, lots of transitions (IIRC).

We’ll look the other Wade if you hire Will. Just get back to being the high caliber program we need in this league.

Kenny was fired today , Vegas favorite replacement is Scott Drew of Baylor. Likely to become a top 5 highest paid Men’s Basketball coach and has No Buyout at Baylor

Pulling Scott Drew would be a boss move and send Baylor back to the Stone Age if they don’t land Jerome Tang as a replacement.

Honestly? If we miss on Drew, I'd be happy with Tang. The dude built an Elite Eight team in his first year, only inheriting 1 player from the previous year's roster. Impressive.

It'll be an interesting couple of weeks, that's for sure. There are a lot of names swirling around the U of L interwebs.

None of those names would excite me.

Near fantasy: Donovan, Wright

Top tier: Drew, Wade (do not let him go to the SEC and dominate)

Second tier: Kelsey, Tang

Will Wade would absolutely light up that fanbase and bring some strong ass recruits in. You all would be ELITE quickly, and the conference needs that. He will not fail.

When has getting your hands dirty ever bothered Louisville?

Louisville requires a coach with gravitas who can handle a pressure cooker. It takes a high profile dude to run our program because of the immense pressure to be a Final Four contender year in and year out. Pitino and Crum were able to handle it....until they couldn't.

Don't you think there's a bit of a grace period for the next coach?

Time for a paradigm shift back to hiring practice from early 20th century.

Identify a coach and team that appears to have well rounded success in either travel or euro club league level, and buy it all. Similar to how programs used to higher great high school coaches and keep those high students together as the initial team and open recruiting pipelines.

Now do the same thing, put just plan on trying to buy the whole travel/club team instead of just the coach.

2 years if he can't get above 500. 3 years if he can't get above NIT berths.

Not in this day and age.

Transfer Portal and NIL means you can reshape your roster annually. Not that this is the best way to build lasting success.

Jerome Tang is one of several coaches who showed what this new era of basketball can do .... his first year in Manhattan Kansas, he inherited 1 guy, assembled a team through the portal, coached them up, and made it to the Elite Eight.

Now ... not everyone gets that kind of run in the NCAA tourney.

But GETTING to the NCAA tourney gives you a shot.

That's the floor for Louisville. Competing for NCAA tourney berths. We should be able to do that in year 1.

WILL WADE

He's going to end up at Okie State or Arkansas or somewhere and flip them into a dynasty. On paper he is the perfect coach for Louisville. He went 30-3 at McNeese State in one season and is dancing!

I hear you.

There's a very loud contingent on the Rivals premium board that is ALL IN on Wade. They make very compelling arguments in his favor.

I would be fine with him. BUT ...

You identified the problem ... getting hands dirty.

Given our recent past, and the fact that there's an ENTIRELY new set of leaders -- President, Board of Trustees, AD, Athletic Board - all new people --- there is little appetite to pursue even the hint of past transgressions. It's not impossible. It's just not very probable.

This has sunk my personal favorite for the gig - Chris Beard.

With Wade having one more year of a Show Cause penalty with the NCAA -- well, it makes it tough to overcome.

It's a long shot. We'd have to miss in embarrassing fashion (a la Tennessee football hire a couple years ago) with several other candidates for him to get a shot, in my opinion. (But ... i have ZERO connections, so what the hell do I know?!?)

Maybe we successfully land Scott Drew ...

And Miami grabs Wade after next year, when Larrinaga hangs it up, and the show cause is gone.

Presently there are over 3 million barrels of bourbon aging in rack houses all over Kentucky. That's 3 barrels or 159 gallons of bourbon for every man, woman and child in the Bluegrass State.

If Louisville hired Huggy I'm certain we would soon have a supply and demand problem.
