RE: WBB Sunbelt Tournament
I actually hope Marshall makes some noise in the tournament. Their press is stout and their 3 point shooting can be ferocious. We did not deserve to win the finals and Marshall has the potential to be an excellent representative of the conference. I hope the three games we played them are in Sean's teaching arsenal for next season - lots to learn from that very well-coached team.

JMU gets shut out of all post-season tournaments. Very disappointing.

They just replaced Miami as the #1 seed in the WBIT and will play Stony Brook

What a strange turn of events. There will be home basketball on Thursday at the AUBC.

RE: WBB Sunbelt Tournament
So...I'm confused...am I correct that there are now three postseason women's tournaments:
1.) The main tournament
2.) This new WBIT - which we just got in to
3.) WNIT

And is that the general "rankings" of these tournaments?

And we originally would not have gotten into the WBIT...but Miami declined to participate...so with us being one of the last out of this bracket, we were given their #1 spot and leapfrogged over every other team?

Is this all correct?

That’s my understanding. Strange but true. JMU WBB season is not over yet!

Kinda wondering what is going on also. Looked at the WBIT bracket last night and did not see the Dukes and told the wife. This morning before she went to work she said that the Dukes got in when Miami declined to participate. What a strange turn of events. Won't be able to make the game at the AUBC as we will be traveling to LA to see the younger daughter but will be watching and ROOTIN!!

Go Dukes!!

Apparently (and unlike the WNIT) the NCAA foots the bill for putting on the WBIT:

Happy for this result, confused but happy. Definitely will be there since Brooklyn is just too hard to make work.

Also, does this mean we host the first three rounds even if we lose a game?

Yes. From the NCAA site:

This 32-team postseason event will be played March 21 (first-round), March 24 (second-round) and March 28 (quarterfinals), with the highest-seeded teams hosting games at campus sites. WBIT semifinal and final games will be conducted at Butler University’s historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on April 1 and 3.

Plenty of men's teams declined. The reason given was so they could get a head start on recruiting/the portal.

Well sure, but they always decline before the field is set.

St. John's, Oklahoma, Pitt, Memphis, Ole Miss, and Indiana all declined this year's men's NIT, and thus were never part of the tournament field.

This might be the first time a team has "declined" after they were announced as a seeded participant.

I'm guessing we got a #1 seed because it was too difficult to re-seed everything after Miami declined. However it happened, it's still good PR and there are solid teams in this tourney.

I don't know why Miami declined, but their coach just retired. Maybe that's it.
