Yes that is a good point.

This is really a much better deal than previously for the MAC because they were laggards under the G5 performance pool.

See twitter posts that all indies not ND are getting a 1/5 G5 per member share or in the neighborhood of 350-360k.

RE: New CFP - G5 to Get Negligible Increase
Comparing the flat rate of the new CFP contract against the new performance pool as to who is going to make out better. I have the years 2014-2020 and note the amount of schools playing in the conference at the time.

2014-2020 Totals
AAC (12) 138,376,487 (1.92 mil per school)
MWC (12) 116,587,690 (1.62 mil per school)
MAC (12) 99,547,896 (1.38 mil per school)
CUSA (14) 92,863,191 (1.29 mil per school)
SBC (10) 91,812,887 (1.53 mil per school)

https://businessofcollegesports.com/fina...2014-2020/

The AAC is going to be actually making less than what they were before.

MAC will be getting a 30% raise from what it was making before. 1.38 million to 1.8 million.

So UConn could pick up an extra 1.4-1.5 million in CFP money in addition to whatever the next MAC TV deal is going to be worth.

I still don't think that will be enough to get them off the fence.

Agree but like to dream. Also to use it as an angle to get WKU.

WKU is now going to be getting the same CFP money as if it were in the MAC or AAC for that matter. They only reason to jump ship from CUSA is if they think they'll get a significantly better TV deal out of it.

The bigger storyline I see here is what happens to the AAC?

G5 ranked by viewers:

AAC
1) Navy
2) Army
4) Memphis
6) Tulsa
9) Tulane
12) Temple
13) USF

MAC
16) Ohio
17) Toledo
20) WMU
24) Buffalo

Memphis, Tulane & USF move to the ACC or XII that is going to tank the AAC TV contract. Navy, Army and Temple might as well align with the MAC at that point and keep things regional.

The bigger question (to some) is how do programs on the edge SURVIVE?

ULM, FIU, EMU??? Will two or three FBS schools have to move down? I know it is unlikely--but at some point things become impossible financially.

You realize this is a pay cut for the MAC because the others got way richer? Its like getting a 5% raise but inflation went up 50%.

That's not been a focus of current reporting, and it's plausible that it's still up in the air ... the P5 was never too fussed about how the Go5 divided up their money, and so long as the Go5 sign onto the new CFP and provide them with their antitrust legal cover, the P2+M2 is not likely to be too fussed with how the Go5 money is split up.

If the 117M is the figure for the G5, could see 1.5M per team, up to 12 teams for 90M and still have a performance pool if 27M, as 2M, 3.5M, 5.5M, 7M, and 9M.

How is this split acceptable to the G5 conference commissioners? Are they idiots or p*ssies?

We should establish our own playoff, I wonder what those #$'s would look like?

I'd hate to make a more tangible separation from the P5, but perhaps cutting loose from their greed now that we know we will ALWAYS be limited to table scraps is the quickest way to a more even playing field. Less games with the G5 means NU, Illinois etc. will struggle to get over 500 ever, that would be fun to watch.

This can't be the best and only road forward for the MAC and other G5 conferences. Maybe separate and rebrand as same but different, FBS ying and FBS yang, and watch the "P5" bottom dwellers go 3-9 every season..... (or play joke FCS programs)

See above ... their Presidents won't turn down the opportunity to be in the NCG playoff proper.

If the Presidents won't support playing hardball over the payout because locking down the guaranteed CFP access is more important to them, what exactly would the conference commissioner be able to do?
