Same here. I've already decided that, barring some breakthrough in Penny's coaching philosophy, I won't be watching next season. I find myself, for the first time ever, looking forward to football more than hoops.

Did the bowl game get you excited ? Or the 4th place finish ?

I support the coaches and players and they got me excited. I thought we looked great in our last game against Iowa State. Looking forward to getting more than 10 wins in 2024. GTG.

All good. I just don’t want to hear about lack of NIL when we lose these conference games next season
Considering who we got in the transfer portal and who is returning....NIL appears to be irrelevant in terms of the big picture. It is not effecting the quality of our 2024 team.

OR, our football NIL has become relevant?

This system is completely unsustainable.

And they are begging us to donate money to students that make more than we do.

Crazy.
And people wonder who is paying for the volleyball team to take tests for the basketball team… hell, the players are picking up the tab.

It’s why I care less and less as the years go by

It’s much cheaper. Only difference. Why we will continue to buy a dozen box seats for football and not buy lower level basketball.

It’s better than the sh!t show we have in b’ball.

Basketball won the AAC tournament just last year. Beating a number 1 seed in the final. Our memories sure are short.

And couldn’t win a game in the tourney. Memories aren’t that short lol
Basketball hasn’t done anything in a decade and half. Last 6 years - there has been drama every year. Very few basketball programs have drama every year. Penny’s lucky he’s Penny otherwise he would have been canned for mismanagement of the program.

Football program has been to a prime time bowl (Cotton). Under Silverfield we haven’t been great but the Liberty bowl win against a Big 12 team is prolly the best postseason win in either sport in the last half decade. Football has a better shot of taking the Access slot and the chance of being in a prestigious bowl game every year.

So you are for canning a guy that made the tournament 2 out of the last 3 seasons? Yet are ok with a bowl win after a 4th place finish? And hasn’t finished better than 4th since his first season which was cut short ?

It’s the body of work. And where we are headed. This is the same path that Paz was on.

Regardless the original response was about the basketball and football program. Football in Memphis is a sport I look forward to now more than basketball which was unthinkable couple decades back. Basketball is on a downward trajectory while football has a chance (given our conference now and the schedule) every year to make a prestigious bowl game.

So when we had Norvell taking us to the conference champ game in a GOOD version of the AAC...and we had Tubby and his 100+ ranked team...you still looked forward to basketball more than football? Because the gap then was real...not imagined like some of you are hyping it to be currently.

5 post-seasons. And it's still not good. But it's better than the 5 years prior. And NCAA tourney invites (2) > greater than bowls other than the NY6 (5).

2…let’s say it again…2 NCAA appearances. ONE win…just ONE.
And a horrible 2023-2024. No good HS prospects in sight to even build a program. The program is on the downturn and Penny hasn’t improved as a coach. This is how Paz was trending towards the end. Tiger basketball is on its last wheel under Penny. Unfortunately we’ll have to tolerate one more year before the plug is pulled.

Liberty bowl win against Iowa State is better than the one NCAA win Tigers have had under Penny. The opportunities in football even with an underwhelming Silverfield is better than the misery we are about to experience next year and perhaps more.

IMO will see Penny for at least 2 more yrs even if they are like this season. Hopefully Penny will find a successful approach to recruiting guys that can play his style D & are compatible at the same time.

But you were ok when Houston beat us at home without Davis. You were also ok with Williams missing key games his first year because of some ncaa bs. Funny how when it fits your racist anti Penny agenda you are ok with it

Doesn't matter how many times you say it - you won't steal the fact that we beat the #1 team in the country and won the AAC tourney. Those are in the record books. Your sour grapes comment is not even a footnote.

Whenever you say a Liberty Bowl win against a Iowa State team (which had 7-8 starters sitting out BTW), is better than any NCAA tourney win, you lose a lot of credibility.

Liberty bowl win against Iowa State is better than the one NCAA win Tigers have had under Penny. The opportunities in football even with an underwhelming Silverfield is better than the misery we are about to experience next year and perhaps more.

Whenever you say a Liberty Bowl win against a Iowa State team (which had 7-8 starters sitting out BTW), is better than any NCAA tourney win, you lose a lot of credibility.

that single NCAA tournament win against Boise State is the crowning achievement of Tiger hoops over the past decade. The underachievement of this program cannot be overstated.

Also one tourney win in 6 years ain’t good either.

5 post-seasons. And it's still not good. But it's better than the 5 years prior. And NCAA tourney invites (2) > greater than bowls other than the NY6 (5).

lol
2…let’s say it again…2 NCAA appearances. ONE win…just ONE.
And a horrible 2023-2024. No good HS prospects in sight to even build a program. The program is on the downturn and Penny hasn’t improved as a coach. This is how Paz was trending towards the end. Tiger basketball is on its last wheel under Penny. Unfortunately we’ll have to tolerate one more year before the plug is pulled.

LOL
A poster who doesn’t do any research and makes outlandish claims has no business calling anyone else out for a lack of credibility.

The one NCAA win was against the “mighty” Boise State where the Tigers were favored by 3 points. Favored by 3 points…not an underdog.

In the Liberty Bowl, the Tigers were a 10.5 point underdog. A sizable underdog according to most analysts and betters.

Memphis had 5 players out due to entering the transfer portal.

Iowa State had 8 players out due to entering the transfer portal.
1 never played in 2023 as he was redshirted.
1 was a below average RB that ran for 343 yards and decided to transfer.
1 played 4 games in 2023 and transferred at end of season.
1 played 3 games on special teams and maintained his redshirt.
1 played 4 games in 2023
1 played 6 games primarily on special teams
1 played 5 games again primarily on special teams
1 was a TE that didn’t play a game in 2023

Sanders was the primarily player that opted out. He and the other RB didn’t play the final game of the regular season either. Iowa State beat #18 Kansas State on the ROAD without those 2 RBs.

Memphis beats a low major team in Boise State where the Tigers were favored by 3 points.
Memphis beats a power 5 team in Iowa State (btw 7-8 starters didn’t sit out) where the Tigers were 10.5 point underdogs.

It’s elementary

Michigan fired a favored son who went to a Sweet 16 & Elite 8 in his 5 year tenure.

Yeah, but this season was abysmal; plus, there were other issues the last few seasons Juwan brought upon himself to warrant his dismissal.
