RE: 2024 Transfer Portal
There are rules for students on visa's, but I also truly believe international students are still getting their piece. Players have been getting under the table money for a long time, I dont believe for a minute international kids are missing out.

RE: 2024 Transfer Portal
Kentucky is close to a best-case scenario from Drexel's end of things. If you know guys are gonna transfer, might as well show that you can go from Drexel straight to a blue blood. Amari doesn't need to succeed there; incoming athletes just need to see that it's possible.

RE: 2024 Transfer Portal
Drexel needs a Pg. Currently we don't have one except for the rookie.

We picked up point guard Kevon Vanderhorst from Brunswick Community College of the JUCO ranks. He was also offered from Eastern Kentucky, NC A&T, St Peters, FIU previously

RE: 2024 Transfer Portal
i just took a quick look at a kentucky message board to see what they're saying. my favorite is...

"Looking at some highlights, he has a nice little unorthodox jump hookshot. It just works"

https://kentucky.forums.rivals.com/threa...me.414620/

if you show one highlight of me hitting a three you might think i can shoot too.

interesting too that their board has multiple posts answered within the last few minutes. i remember discuss here about people not using message boards any more. they use them...just when the subject matter is worth talking about to a lot of people.

good luck to him. hopefully for him it becomes a cam wynter situation where he gets the right person to motivate him to become the player he's capable of being. there's nowhere to hide down in kentucky. they had 22,000 people in rupp arena for the new coach's introductory press conference. that's probably not far from the total number of people that attended games at the dac all year.

RE: 2024 Transfer Portal
I am secretly hoping they pack him down low and he just dominates, confirming what we all wanted Spiker to do. Will honestly be interested to see how he does at that level and how they use him with his limitations or if he even can sustain a role.

RE: 2024 Transfer Portal
some idiot on twitter made spiker the big 5 coach of the year. he cited 20 wins and finishing 2nd in the conference which have their own issues especially since we definitely didn't finish 2nd in the conference tournament when it mattered.

the other reason he gave is spiker is sending players to bigger schools. i'm still kind of shock over the stupidity of this one. low to mid conference programs don't exist as some type of farm system for the power 4, 5, or whatever that number is these days. they are actually independently functioning basketball programs...at least for now and at least as far as i'm concerned.

i told him he should have just not given out a big 5 coach of the year. nobody deserved it.

Glasper staying at NC A&T. That feels like a win for the conference.

I don't think it's fair to say that nobody deserved it. Lange had a 20-win season at St. Joe's, won the Big 5 handily, took out top-seeded Richmond in the A10 tourney, and then took eventual NIT champ Seton Hall to overtime. He would've been my pick.

RE: 2024 Transfer Portal
The other part has always been true and the gap is widening. Low majors have always been feeders and rely on buy games to even run their athletics programs. Budgets at the top have always been far different then those outside the power conferences. So resources have always created feeder programs into those. The rules helped keep things as even as they ever were going to be. With the NCAA losing all power, the rules went out the window. With no regulations its free agency and the tiers are as distinct as ever and only growing in those gaps between them. SO whether we like it or not or agree with it or not, we absolutely are feeder programs from the power conferences. They will continue to recruit McDonald's all american high school players or they will use the transfer portal and mid majors and low majors and below will be the ones primarily recruiting high school players to set them up for be grabbed by bigger schools from the portal. Yes the programs are independently run, and yes technical they are on the same level of competition (for now), but the smaller conferences are 100% feeders and minor leagues for the power conferences.

RE: 2024 Transfer Portal
i told him i would have gone with lange if i had to pick anybody. they book ended their season well. the in between wasn't much to be excited about.

if the mid to low major teams are feeder programs...i'm not ready for that to be something a coach can hang their hat on if the program isn't performing. i can see their point though that the portal can be an excuse for a bad season. what's denise dillon going to do? she has no roster. i'd just hate to see coaches using where they send transfers to justify their job security rather than winning basketball games. if that's the new role of anybody other than then power 4...i'm going to have to finally figure out how to not care about this at all anymore. it was just so much fun for so long despite how we tended to get tortured at the end of seasons.

my one source of hope was a podcast i listened to from the lehigh valley this week. they're older members of the media...one is in his 70s and i think the other gentleman is even older. i was lucky to catch the end of that generation when it wasn't all about money and hot takes. lots of great memories just like that old caa was fun with all the va schools.

our women's team keeps proved good things can still happen too.
