Yeah because IMO is a senior, you could argue the team needs two point guards. Maybe a veteran and a freshman.
Let me rephrase....
Caesar could be a very good passer because he can beat anyone off the dribble which will open up shooters. Last year, he did not care about finding those shooters. Maybe this coaching staff can get through to him. He picked up his defense as the year progressed, and maybe we can see another jump there. Maturity is going to help with coach-ability. He definitely has some maturing to do.
I don't hate his game coming off the bench at all and I have a hard time taking a firm stance on HOW anybody plays based off of last season. If his attitude is good (no idea) and he is willing to work to make his game more rounded (no idea) then I think Caesar has a lot to offer in the energy and skill department. In fact, if those two unknowns are in the "good" category, I think the dude can be a really good player for us.
PLUS. Mike Jones is on record saying" isn't it our job to teach these guys how to play". I love that attitude, lets go!! Get your guys, teach um up and turn them loose baby!!
Yes, yes it is. I agree with Mac. I'm stoked, not because it's so unusual but because it was so lacking last season. Could/should see big differences in the holdover players, tho Imo already embodies that attitude,

Caesar isn't a PG, but some of the best passes and assists last year, were made by him. Might be the quickest player to the rim we have. He is a talented player, learn him up HCMJ.

Good Luck, Yamari!
It will be interesting to see if he ends up wherever his brother Vasean ends up.
I’m more interested myself in who we bring in to replace this kid! Can’t wait. We know there is a lot going on behind the scenes. BUT , it sure is hard on an impatient fan like myself to give it time!! Can’t wait to see the full roster once it’s ready. So many holes to plug, might be a spell.
There are so many player’s in the portal now, that MJ can evaluate and take his time, in filling out his roster. I’m not saying this guy fits MJ system but, Jamarii Thomas from Norfolk St. enters the portal. He is a guard, averaged 16.9 pts. & was MEAC player of the year. He shot 38% from three and had 3.8 assists per game. To me MJ has the luxury to go to several player’s. If a player wants to go to another school, I am sure the staff has their pecking order. There are several player’s from the D.C./Baltimore area, also in the portal. It could be in May before finalising a 13 player team.

The last time we had an all-MEAC player transfer to the Monarchs he wound up being quite a talent. If we found a Joe Bunn level talent for this squad Id be thrilled.

A list of interest like that screams “I’ll need NIL and a lot of it”.

His quickness is his best attribute and you can't teach that. It gets him open shots and drives to the hoop. I wish he were a little more under control at times, but you take the bad with the good. That might improve. Energy level is through the roof.

On the new Monarchist Podcast, Coach Jones mentioned he hoped to have three players on board by Monday. We know about one of them. Hope he got the news he wanted from the other two!! He seemed “fairly” confident about them.

If he was talking transfers, we have 2 on board. Please, hoop gods, let the third be a big or dynamic PG.

They had three in this weekend. He said two on Friday, one committed that we have heard about. Second one no word in public at least. Then another player came in Sunday for a visit Jones said. He was really excited about all three.

Right on Chillie. With Devin's natural speed and quickness and MJ's coaching he could be All Conference next year.

He has got to learn to take that same intensity to the defense side of the ball where he is currently a liability.

Mac, just for fyi. Of the two high players and hopefully three we have committed, I looked up, that all important signing date. High school signing date is 4/17/24 through 5/15/24. Maybe M13, can tell us when portal transfers have to actually sign.

Portal transfers don’t have to sign. There is no national letter of intent right now for transfers, though there is a movement to create one.
The important date for basketball transfers is when each session starts for the 3 different summer class periods (Maymester, session 1 and session 2) because you don’t know 100% that they will be here until they enroll.
It’s why ODU football didn’t announce transfers until they enrolled.

Elijah Hawkins just hit the portal. He is the vetern PG ODU needs. Minnesota had its first winning season in four years and Elijah Hawkins was the main reason why. Former DeMatha player when Mike Jones was the coach. Throw all available NIL money at him.

That won't be enough. He is staying because Minnesota caved.

Mac, who was the third? The only one I could think of was is Johnson. He only had to sign, since he was prep school.
