RE: Welcome Preston Spradlin
Spradlin's team beat Clemson in the NIT just last year. Clemson is in the Elite 8 this year. Quality win.

ODU 51-33 all time against JMU, dork.
Quiet. Winning programs are talking.

Trending up versus trending down.
Not only that, but Coach O and Coach Spradlin took over totally different types of programs with entirely different levels of support, facilities etc

I haven’t seen any details on his contract yet. Did a little research on the interweb but could not find the information. Anyone know? I only know it says 6 year contract.

Would guess that it is for 500-600k a year plus incentives. When we hired Mark his original salary was 450k so with inflation and the fact that Spradlin has made the tourney twice I would lean more towards closer to 550 or 600k.

Also guessing it is a MOU right now and exact contract details are not yet signed.

As long as it's a comfortably middle of the pack (Sun Belt) salary.
*Don't want a reputation for paying on the cheap- it's not a badge of honor.
*Hope it's loaded with incentives to reward a great season or milestone wins. If you want a program to reach the highest rungs of the G5 level, you have to be willing to pay. Can't expect to consistently punch above your weight without paying the man.
We as alums are all going to have to ratchet up donations and spread the word for that need.

100%. Byington said as much on his JMU Sound Off appearance.
Let’s Welcome Coach Spradlin to JMU

IMO Spradlin is better than Byington.
Byington did a good job but I believe Byington had capped out and tapped up/out to get his big bag for a few years at the right time

I have never underestimated a contract JMU has offered.

I too like the hire, and I think that Spradlin has a very high ceiling, but his success is yet to be proven. As such I can’t say Spradlin’s time as HC will prove to be better than Coach By’s tenure. If it is then JMU will be rolling, and once again JMU will be looking for a new HC.
We disagree that By’s tenure was just “good.” Using any objective standard his time at JMU was excellent. First win over UVA. Multiple wins over P5 ranked teams. First top 20 ranking in JMU’s history. Most wins in a season. First NCAAT win in 40 years. You can’t discount those accomplishments. They’re facts. If by “capped out” you suggest By had nothing else to prove at JMU I agree, and it was (as a young 48 year old HC) time to test his abilities and get rewarded for them at a hire level.
Now, will By be successful at Vandy? Like with Spradlin, only time will tell. But I wouldn’t bet against Mark. He’s very bright, appears to understand how to recruit in this new age of the portal and NIL, and runs an offense this generation of players enjoy. I wish him nothing but the best at Vandy, and won’t be surprised if he keeps rising in the coaching profession.

Silver lining to having no key players returning - We get to see a lot of new players added, and likely very soon.

Welcome Preston Spradlin
I keep tuning in here to see the new roster taking shape. Let’s get moving!
He had a ton of turnover coming to Moorhead as it was, I’m sure he has a ton of targets already in sight with discussions already in place. I wonder how those targets change now that he is hawking JMU vs Moorhead.

Not surprising coming from the fan base that was bragging about winning 2 FCS games against us for a decade.
Not working out for them too good in the present day.
That record sure isn't helping them in the Royal 'Rivalry'.
And to use their words against them: it isn't a rivalry until you beat us.

Welcome Preston Spradlin
Been watching many clips of past interviews. Very impressive. He and Chesney give me the exact same vibe, smart, winners, and high-energy guys that really value their impact on players' lives. I think Bourne hit a HR on both hires.
