FOX Sports in conjunction with AEG have announced The College Basketball Crown a 16-team tournament taking place March 31 through April 6, 2025, in Las Vegas.

The Big Ten; Big Twelve and Big East will have 2 automatic qualifers each with the other 10 teams being selected by a committee.

Serious question. What percentage of teams do you think would rather beat a B1G Big East and Big 12 opponent on their way to winning the “College Basketball Crown” than win the CBI? I think this may actually work for some teams from smaller conferences looking for a post season tourney, assuming the committee selects based on merit (yes, I have my doubts they will do so as well.) But I think a lot of low and mid majors would love the opportunity

The problem is it is not based on merit when bids are handed out simply based on conference membership.

Out of principle, I hope Memphis and all other G-5 schools decline invitations for the NIT and the new tourney unless the money is too good to pass up.
