Welcome AD Matt Roan!
Per JMU, and Roan’s statement this appears to be official.

Now let’s get BFS completed so we can join the ACC! 04-rock 05-stirthepot

I asked Matt what the priorities he was given as the new AD. He said people have approached him with like 30 priorities, but #1-#10 - were all finish the other side of the stadium.

I'm already so damn excited for football season. Whenever they officially announce beginning of campaign to build the other side of Bridgeforth I will be over the moon. As someone who wasn't involved when the first side was constructed, how long did the process take from initial fundraising announcement to completion?

-The Board of Visitors reviewed and approved a plan for phased expansion in January 2008. Private/quiet fundraising and planning was going on for at least two years before that.
-A construction timeline was set in Sept 2009, and demolition started in late Nov 2009.
-Kickoff in the finished facility was Sept 10 2011.

Riggert had an interview with Roan a few days ago.
While he didn't specifically say anything about expanding the stadium, he made two general comments about athletics:
-He really likes to build stuff
-It's a matter of 'when'

How do you know when the “Private/quiet” fundraising began back then? That must mean you know when it began for the other side! Spill your guts Deez!!!

winks and nudges was all I had but JMU was seeking commitments from donors for the project well before it was announced. Same thing for the other campaigns and capital efforts like COB, AUBC, etc.

Most quiet phases begin 2 years in advance for higher education projects. Its just the industry standard. The question is how quiet that choose to keep that phase.

DirtyBird, you'd need to decipher what Deez wrote in order to understand we played one season smack in the middle of the construction, 2010. This made for some interesting seat choices/issues, but actually went very smooth.

No. That information was never released “officially”

He seems to be fully appreciative of the trajectory we are on due to his attention on us for the past 20 years. It's not like he just became aware of JMU over the last two successful years.

After some of his answers in the Q and A, I can't help but think that JB had him in mind as his successor when he stepped down.

I think so too.
He also comes across as a guy that actually wants to be at JMU. His ties to VA and his family makes me think if he does a good job that he could potentially be here for a long time.
Stadium expansion sounds like a priority.
Heavy emphasis on people and the reason JMU is special is the people.
We need help in regards to increasing donors and fundraising and appears to be really good at that.
Did mention some things will probably be different, but it won't be change for the sake of change.
Coming in where things are really well established, and wants to keep winning. Doesn't seem like complacency will be a problem, either.
Mentioned he wants every athlete to leave with a degree and a championship ring. I thought that was a cool image.
Family guy. And his family seems to be all in.
Wants to be engaged with fans.
All really good things. The main question I have: is this guy too good to be true? Time will tell, but he certainly made a really strong first impression in my eyes.

RE: Welcome AD Matt Roan!
What gives me some comfort is that he described Bourne as a mentor over the last 5 years. Hopefully, that means Bourne will still be a mentor in the first year so Roan doesn’t have to learn everything about JMU from scratch. Especially what can be accomplished quickly with King as the interim pres. Get King and Roan in the room with Bourne zooming in from his lake boat and start locking in plans to maximize the front porch of the University while there is a window open. 04-rock

This is the biggest job in Roan’s life by far and a quantum leap from Eastern Kentucky to JMU. The biggest experience void is FBS football and the program can’t afford to lose its momentum from the first 2 years of transition. Lots of things in the athletic department will crumble if he doesn’t have a successful FBS football program and that only intensifies if money is committed to remodeling the other side of the stadium. If investment goes up, revenue must go up and that only happens if the program is successful.
More pressure for him for sure, but it is a good pressure in my mind. He’s young and can work the 80 hour weeks that will be needed to elevate the football program and the overall athletic program along with it.

Let’s go. The clock is ticking.

Only for you. JMU has always been methodical in decision making, and Interim Prez King is probably least likely to be the vote in favor of rushing change. They can start making plans but I doubt you'll see an announcement on expansion before a new president is selected. I'm not saying a new Prez needs to approve it, but it would shock me if there's an announcement within a year of the new AD taking over. Roan will do his due diligence, identify what plans are in place, meet with stake holders and people with the money to put behind it, apply his vision with it, and that's going to take <ducks> 18-24 months
