Al Ja-Zeera recently put out taped of Saddam touring Baghdad. Are these from recent days? Or are they staged?

Survey says...YES! They have lied about nearly everything else in their propoganda reports, my guess is they have lied about him being alive too. He may actually be alive, but I doubt they know whether he is or not.

I agree, but it does look like Saddam, and there was smoke in the backround. Should we believe it?

O'Reilly said last night that Al-Jazeera is bribed by Hussein to lie and spin his direction. He has a guy over there that traces the origin of false news and tracks the source. The guy is Arabic. He has known Hussein funded Al-Jazeera for many years.

He also mentioned the groups here that heavily fund war protest marches and orgs. Turner and the Ford Foundation were mentioned at the top.

France, Germany, China, and Russia all were against us entering Iraq. All have now been shown to have been providing weapons of some sort to Iraq, since the sanctions began after the first Gulf War. They are done, IMO.

Follow the money and you will always find the evil.

It would appear the network wasn't lying. In fact, it would seem some of the bullpucky was coming out of Washington.

Al-Jazeera has been proved lying before about Saddam's whereabouts. I think it was good by the White House to consider all of the possibilities before going by a news source who is paid off by Saddam.

Lying? Show me. Isn't it possible they just got snowed? I mean, clearly, a tremendous amount of bullpucky has been coming out of Iraq. It would be a tremendous challenge for any news organizations to strain all that crap for the grains of truth that might be buried within.

My take on Al Jazeera is that it is essentially a bizarro version of Fox News. In both organizations, there is some serious journalism going on. But, in both organizations, there is also an awful lot of spin designed to cater to audiences that don't want troublesome facts interfering with their versions of the world.

Even their mottos are similar: "We report, you decide." "Objective and balanced..."

Organizations that are, in fact, objective and balanced don't need to brag about it.

Al Jazeera is worth seeing for yourself if you haven't:

english.aljazeera.net

Again, it would appear to me that the latest U.S. attempt to assassinate Saddam Hussein redeems Al Jazeera reporting that suggested Saddam was alive. It also suggests the real spin was coming out of Washington, at least to the extent that U.S. officials were intimiating Saddam might be dead.

If you were having dinner with Saddam you could say he MIGHT be dead. That is a far cry from he IS dead. I don't see the issue. They weren't positive either way hence the word might. Maybe is hardly a concrete thought.

I'm not really criticizing our government for what it said on Saddam. It was clearly intended to deflate morale among Iraqi loyalists, and it did hedge.

But the question at hand was whether Al-Jazeera was lying about Saddam being alive?

The answer seems clear now.

I see Rochester, but since they are motivated to inflate Iraq's morale at the request of Saddam, I would say they were lying that they "knew" he was alive. Of course the truth has proven them right. But that doesn't mean they weren't lying when they announced. If I lie about being a millionaire and then win the lottery it doesn't change the fact that I lied.

Says who? (And I mean someone other than Bill O'Reilly, who is not a journalist. If he says so, what are his sources?).

Quote:I would say they were lying that they "knew" he was alive.

I've looked for that report, and it is not on the Web site. Sourcing is everything. If video was supplied to them by the Iraqi government, that would be one thing. If one of their guys shot the film, that would be quite another.

Again: Al Jazeera is an news organization -- with a tremendous amount of spin, but a news organization nonetheless. We can't just assume because Al Jazeera is reporting something it *isn't* true. Smart news consumers will judge their stories and sourcing criticially just as they would that of any other news organization.
