The Dream Act: Justice or Rewarding Illegal Behavior? - miko33 - 05-17-2011 09:27 PM

After thinking about this question, I cannot justify how this is truly justice for the unfortunate kids that were dragged into a mess against their will. It's sad, but the larger issue at hand is that this Act would motivate even more people to jump the fence to become illegal aliens. It's no different with the amnesty proposals. When does it end?

In short, you are correct, though there was a means of citizenship via military service, which I don't know if it still exists. I can agree to the military service deal as it is a serious decision that literally can be life or death. All other means of citizenship should be via means already in existence.

Living in Texas, I know that if we simply started enforcing the laws on the books and ceased benefits to the illegals, there would be a major decrease in the number of illegals present in the states. That said, I am not opposed to Congress reviewing the numbers of legal immigrants on a regular basis nor am I opposed to a guest worker program as long as the rules are enforced.

One of the big complaints from those supporting the illegal immigrants is that they do work that no one else will do. This complaint is incorrect, or at least incomplete in that no one will do the work at the deflated price that the illegals will do it for.

Let's just make Mexico our 51st state and end all the debate...

...I thought Canada was our 51st state...

We'd need to make England a state to get Canada...

Ironically, if we did, they would simply paly it off as the "Colonies have returned to Mother."

Back to OP, most illegals are of Mexican origen. It is simply a matter of walking across the border. The irony of this is that Mexico has very stringent immigration laws and they are enforced on their southern border! It's hard for us to imagine that Mexico is a dream for many others but they are a top 20 economy and better off than many of the Central American states.
