SECSPN - georgia_tech_swagger - 09-14-2012 12:59 PM

This is now my new ongoing thread to air all grievances with the Worldwide SEC Ball Cupping Leader.

ESPNU College Football Podcast .... Ivan Maisel's main thoughts of ND's move to the ACC is that this officially marks the beginning of irrelevance for ND, and for ACC scheduling this is a huge blow to the Southern Conference since Wofford and company won't be getting nearly as many games against the ACC.

What a douchenozzle.

RE: SECSPN - Ole Blue - 09-14-2012 01:33 PM

lol what a joke. Replace "ND goes to ACC" with "ND goes to SEC" and they'd be spewing rainbow glitter out of their ears in happiness.

Agreed, and I doubt this means less games against SEC opponents. The FSU/GT/Clemson/Wake rivalry games aren't going away no matter what and the teams that are willing to play the SEC in kickoff classics are still going to do so. It's not like we were playing tons of SEC teams anyway.

I Freudian slipped. I meant ACC. Edited.

And thanks to our drubbing of UVA with zero coverage (even in College Football Final) we drop 6 spots in the AP Top 25. Nice "exposure".

RE: SECSPN - techfan4 - 09-16-2012 01:33 PM

The more ESPN talks up the SEC, the more it'll become a single dominant conference that no one can match. It won't be good for TV and it won't be good for the game.

RE: SECSPN - Hokie Mark - 09-17-2012 03:38 PM

Hmmm, let's see...
Quality wins by SEC over BCS opponents: 2 (TN/NCSU and AL/MI)
SEC Losses to BCS opponents: 4 (CU/AU, KY/Lvl, NW/Van, TX/MS)
Bad losses to lower-tier: 2 (ULM/AK, W-KY/KY)
(almost lost 2 more: AU/ULM & MSU/Troy)

Yeah, the SEC is clearly the dominant conference this year, top to bottom! 01-wingedeagle

I can't even escape SECSPN on a damned Friday.

They do a preview on Mizzou-SC ... UGAg-Vandy ... and VT-BGSU with the mention of "how did they lose to Pitt??"

Anddddd now Gilmore is talking about how the ACC is dragging FSU down and may kill their shot at a National Championship.

Excuse me, how is it that Miami, Clemson, Virginia Tech and NC State drag down FSU? Wake Forest, Maryland and BC are not bad either, and Duke is much improved.

By contrast, let's look at Alabama's conference schedule:

@Arkansas - the team that lost to ULM
Ole Miss - the team that Texas crushed 66-31

@Missouri - TBD, probably pretty good
@Tennessee - decent team, beat NC State
Mississippi St - barely edged out out Troy
@ LSU - I'll give 'em this one
Texas A&M - another good team
Auburn - nearly winless after 3 games

so that's 4 tough SEC opponents and 4 easy ones, same as FSU's ACC opponents.

RE: SECSPN - catdaddy_2402 - 09-21-2012 09:12 PM

One would expect better from our "trusted partner", but it's not surprising. They were already working on driving down the price of the 5 year "look-in" y'all have raved so much about. Now that they know they have to go back to the table sooner because we added 2.5 games a year against God's gift to football it's going to go into overdrive.

RE: SECSPN - Hokie Mark - 09-21-2012 09:54 PM

ACC needs to have Boise State "us against the world" attitude... because that's the way it really is.

RE: SECSPN - georgia_tech_swagger - 10-13-2012 11:04 PM

I'm watching Texas A&M vs La Tech ......

I've heard "SEC SPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED" AT LEAST a dozen times.

The color commentary has been dominated by "how mistakes in (insert phase of the game here) by Texas A&M will REALLY hurt them against SEC caliber competition" and pontification of future TAMU SEC games.

RE: SECSPN - bronconick - 10-18-2012 08:55 PM

I got a kick out of the long comment on the awesomness of the SEC on the realignment board when Mississippi State and A&M got ripped on for being overrated.

A&M has been in the conference for like two months. The only thing they've done in the past to burnish the SEC name is get their asses kicked by Arkansas and LSU in nonconference games for the last half decade. How that makes them a top 20 team this year because they've changed a patch on their jersey is beyond me.

RE: SECSPN - georgia_tech_swagger - 10-18-2012 11:05 PM

Watching Oregon vs Arizona State ...... we've had extended discussions on:

- Florida
- Texas A&M
- LSU
- Georgia
- Tennessee
- Alabama

I'm not saying those teams are no good, but frankly except for LSU (Washington), Tennessee (NC State) and Alabama (Michigan) the rest are completely untested in non-conference play. FL & GA won't be tested OOC until the last game of the season. Both play a cupcake to tune up for their ACC rival; evidently Florida is so afraid of FSU they play TWO cupcakes before the 'Noles! Texas A&M's toughest OOC opponent all year is Louisiana Tech...

But hey, as long as they can beat Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Missouri they MUST be good! Clearly top to bottom the SEC is the strongest conference... I'm not sure why the rest of us haven't dropped football by now!

What a joke.
